Hey Zilvia I'm up in Nor Cal about an hr from the Or border and I am having a serious bitch of a time getting my car registered in Cali because it is a Or salvage-reconstruct and in order to get it reg'd i need to do CHP inspection which is not happening because it has s13 front end and Sr motor. So I'm very close to saying fuck it and getting an OR Po box and registering my car up there (since I'm prob moving there in less than a year anyways).

My questions to you:
1) How hard would it potentially be for me to do this being I'm out of state? in other words to I have to prove residence or will a PO box be sufficient?
2) Do I also have to get an OR drivers license? If so how hard is this?
3) What are the smog / inspections like that are needed to get it registered? I.e. do you even have emissions tests? is it a simple brake and light inspection

Any help would be appreciated... Or registration seems like it would be easiest because my car is Or registered already just not up to date tags. Theoretically all I would have to do is change title :x:

hey, so i actually just registered my s13 today in Eugene, Oregon. I just moved here from the Bay Area about 3 months ago. It is very easy to register a car here compared to California (and cheaper). But if you wanna live in Medford or in the Portland area you will need to get a smog certificate.

All the DMV did today was check our VIN # and matched it with my Cali car title/registration. I filled out the Registration application which was just basic info (ie: name, address, car info, insurance ). I do not think you have to have an Oregon address to register a car here (i know people who have their cars registered in Cali and Oregon with only one address).

If you want an Oregon license, you will need to have proof of an Oregon residence along with your passport or birth certificate, and fill out the license application. I really doubt a PO box would fly. I have to go back in with my bc and proof of address to get my OR license.

Like i said, only Medford and Portland area require emission checks. My husband has a mitsubishi eclipse gsx with a few goodies on it, so he knows a bit about escaping OR inspections and whatnot.
I really hope i understood what u were asking and helped you. I'm new to this whole Oregon registration thing too, so i just told u what i experienced at the DMV today while doing my own. Maybe check out the Oregon DMV website for any further questions. Good Luck! :wiggle:

Reg in or with Cali address? That's weird lol... Right on thank you soooo much! I've been stressing this for some time. As far as the registration itself it's already an or title so it would just be a transfer of name and some back fees. The reason why I wanted to get a drivers license also is so that I don't get messed with by police for having an or registered car with Cali drivers license. But if you don't think this will be an issue then I'm game. One last thing, what passes for proof of residence up there? Do you need a bill sent to that address or can it just be a letter or something minor?

You have to have an oregon drivers license i think and for the smog in medford u have to have an adress outside city limits to be smog exempt.. Or the car has to be 21 years old

Have a buddy vouch for you. All my buddy had to have when when he moved to Roseberg was a written letter of residence with his roomate and the roomate had to go with him, (thats only license requirements). I was looking into it for a while when I was in the military.

Word... Its a 91 so it's 21 years old, ok thanks for the input guys but I ended up getting a job in nor cal so I'm just gonna jump through Cali's hoops for the time being and then prob move to Oregon at the end of the year cus Cali is wack as fuck with its rules and regulations. Does anyone know if I will have to go through the process of re-re-salvage titling once I move up there considering it currently has an Or salvage-reconstruct title which will become a Ca salvage-reconstruct? In other words since Or already signed off on it will it become voided by transferring the title?

Btw I know this is confusing, this is my old account that I recovered

Let's see...

My questions to you:
1) Not sure on the registration but, I also have an S13 with an SR and I'm good...
2) Pretty easy to get a license here...
3) No smog unless you're in Medford or Ptown...

This thread also reminds me I need new tags on the 240......

Lol those sounded more like statements... But yes I do have an SR and would also be getting a license because I really am planning on moving there after Humboldt. And I'm aware of the no smog outside of major metro areas
