might be a noob question.. but im doin a ka build.. motor has 270k on it and so far ive got

cp piston
eagle rods
arp studs
bearings
bc valvetrain
bc cams

do u think its necessary to buy a new oil pump as well ? do they ever fail?

do it once, do it right. change it if you have the funds

I would change it if you're going all out. I rebuilt my engine @ 100k had the machine shop check the oil pump, was well within spec. Runs fine.

You're rebuilding the engine from the ground up, spend thousands of dollars in parts and labor but you wont change something that cost $150 that could potentially fuck your whole engine up. If it makes you feel better, most stock KAs that blow up around here are due to failing oil pumps.

New oil pump and get an oil cooler as well!

i would change it i rebuilt my ka spend a pretty good amount of money in it and didnt change the oil pump and it was always in the back of my mind if i should have changed it..

change it. oil pump is pretty much your engine's heart. if its stop pumping oil, your engine will die haha

If you don't want to buy a whole new front cover you can buy just the pump gears and the relief spring/plunger kit. I believe there is even a stiffer Nismo spring available that will give you more oil pressure. Google KA oil pump rebuild, there are a few write-ups out there.
