I don't usually post much stuff, but some friends convinced me to take pics of my project s13 coupe. I thought i'd share this time.

They're just pics of my painted bay. I could have done a better job preping the bay, but i'm really happy with how it turned out. What is this? A show car?? =P

Anyway the color was chosen for visibility when working on my car, as i expect to be looking under the hood a lot.

Thanks yall, just sharing here.

Actually it is =) I'm not looking for it to last the life of the car. I just want the bay to stop rusting until i can afford to spray it with some real paint. Hopefully by then i'll own a air compressor.

As for the shininess, I hit it with a clearcoat right after i took these pictures and it turned the "aluminum" into a dull grey. So it's not really shiny anymore...but at least I can clean it.

Nah man. The whole car won't be painted that color, just the bay.

How long did it take you to paint it? Looks good

How long did it take you to paint it? Looks good

It took about a day of prep (removing everything from the engine bay (wiring harness, brake booster etc) Grinding away all the rust, sanding the surface with 400grit sandpaper, removing the battery tray)

Then it took another day of doing nothing but fantasizing about stitch welding and riveting the now bare chassis that lay before me. Then Kevin slapped some sense into me and I realized it was both beyond my means at this point, and unnecessary.

Then about an 2 hours of painting(including wiping down the sanded surface with paint thinner, masking, painting, and waiting for coats to dry before applying new coats on top)

It took two cans of "aluminum" paint to get three coats. And it took three cans of clear coat to do two coats.

paint was about 5 dollars per can. clearcoat about 4 dollars. 4 dollars worth of sandpaper....i already had masking tape and masking material...

So around 22 dollars i guess?? LOL We'll see how it lasts though....i'll post later on that.

Actually, the car will remain the faded/oxidized/scratched/dented champagne color that it is. Noone ever looks twice at me...it's wonderful. =)

But If I do get it painted in the future, i'm sticking with the stock champagne color. You ever seen a champagne car with black wheels? It's looks absolutely hard. But for that to happen i'll have to learn to prep and paint.

That came out super good. I was close to doing the same thing, but to the OUTSIDE of my car. Just to see if it looked decent enough to take the car to the track and touge. And maybe an occasional date if anyone bothered calling. Maybe I will next time I work on my car. Just for shits and giggles to see how it comes out...
