hey guys, i'm currently looking at this used TODA flywheel... it looks like it has some heat discoloration... isn't that bad? so i was wondering if this was in really bad shape or still ok...

hmmm... the heat discoloration kinda scares me... but it was resurfaced alright so assuming it's balanced it *should* be ok.;)

so what exactly causes the heat discoloration and why is it bad? What makes resurfacing it better?

i think he just means the resurfacing job came out alright...

and it's so it can match up with a new clutch...new on new...like rotors when you replace your pads...

the heat discoloration is caused by abusing the living shit out of the clutch either slipping it a lot or just plain overpowering it (slipping too). i'm no metallurgist but i would think that overheating it like that will weaken the metal to some degree. but like i said i haven't taken any metallurgy classes yet;)

i wouldn't trust it, personally. Would I be wrong in assuming that that's an auction item? I wouldn't buy it unless i could physically check it (and have a machine shop check it out). It's possible the face has some cracks in it, and yes, the flywheel can be weakened/warped when overheated like that. The last flywheel I saw with heat marks like that had HUGE cracks in the face (stock, not TODA).
Who knows? It might be 100% A-OK... For my money, I'll go with something safer.

Yea, that discoloration looks nasty. If it was just a slight discoloration I'd think it would be fine, but that large one looks kinda mess'd up:eek: Also, in teh second picture, the center circle almost looks out of line w/ the 2nd due to the burnt marks...

Anyone else think that that is the flywheel off of SCC's 240?

I saw that on ebay..

It's a Lightweight Steel flywheel..

I didn't look at it for long though b/c of the discoloration.
