Correct me if I am wrong, but any car before 1975 is smog exempt in California. Smog Information (http://dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm) I am not sure if there are special conditions for imported cars, but I believe that it is the same as long as you have valid papers. If I am wrong, please tell me.
