It seems like everyone lives were theres tracks to go drifting. just wondering if theres anyone else without the option of a track to drive on? I live in springfield missouri and we have no track just autocross cone dodging in a baseball stadium parking lot, once a month in the summer, which ill try drifting at and will prolly get kicked out :(. anyway just wanted to hear from the ppl with no trakc, just empty parking lots i wanna whos got track and who dont just for shits and giggles.

Patience.

This year shouldn't be too hard to find a place to drift legally.

If you are up for the trip, there will be some in Illinois, if you are up for a further trip there is Minnesota. And at least one in Indy.

Dunno about whats on the west of you, just do some researching.

theres a place in richmond that has parking lot drift event, no where here that will allow it on the track, oh wait, there arent many tracks either. just cone dodging...

and you west coast guys who say the cops catch you, and et you off cause youre not hurting anything... you all suck. i almost got a 6 point ticket the other day. messing around in a parking lot at a factory thats been shut down for like 3 years. he wanted to give me "wreckless in a parking lot" but said hed be nice since im already semi-screwed in the ticket area.

I live in Kansas City, and only AutoX in stadium parking lots that I know of around here. The only tracks I know that are somewhat close are Heartland Park, Topeka and Kansas Motor Speedway.

If I had plenty of cash to spare, I'd build a track like Driftland in the Best Motoring Drift Bible DVD! :)

My father's business is an industrial park with a decently wide 90 degree turn with tons of gravel runoff space, then another 90 thats a bit of a sweeper, down a hill, straightaway into a culdesac. I've tried doing some slides around the bends, but the road needs paved badly. When/ If they pave it, I plan on trying to learn to drift down there. Ive gone down at night an done some wicked fun snow drifting and since it's private property and my business is a lease holder, the cops shouldnt be able to bust me. Also it resides in a valley, and is lit, so if i turn my lights off, no one would even know i was there.

what is the ideal track width for drifting? it seems like normal roads arent wide enough for "safe" drifting, its almost certain that you would fly off the road at anything more than 25mph.

We don't have a track near here. All we have is straight roads with cops around every turn...:coolugh:

sometime around the 26th of april i believe... should be a good event though. a friend of mine knows a lot of the event organizers and actually got to go see them test the track yesterday. he said they're actually planning on adding some pavement in certain areas to make the corners more drift friendly, which i find f'n amazing. i guess we'll see.

Where are the ones in Illinois going to be at? I live right on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin and there is only one 1/4 track around here and thats it.

I wish i had the oppertunity to drift in a safe place. i havent ever really let loose and drifted that much, id like to try it, Meh but for now i'll just stick to the good old cone runs, parking lots, touge runs, and get arrested. You guys are so lucky....

My best advice is to go to The Ozark Mountain Region solo2 events at Price Cutter Park. OMR is the friendliest group that I have autocrossed with, and I seriously doubt they will kick you out for trying to slide your car. I will definitely try to make it down for some more events next season. If you really want to get some sideways action in Missouri, I suggest attending some rallycrosses put on by the St Louis region.

As for tracks in your area, the closest that you will find are probably Heartland Park in Topeka, KS (http://www.hpt.com/roadcourse.htm ), Mid America Motorplex in Omaha, NE (http://www.midamericamotorplex.com/ ), and the occasional track day at Gateway International Raceway's road course in St. Louis, MO (http://www.gatewayraceway.com/mapOvalGS.html )

That said, if you try drifting at any of their track days, you WILL get kicked out, and you will be out of a lot more money than an autocross.

It will definitely be worth your while to go to any autocross events, or track days and learn how to drive well first, before you start to drift. These "cone dodgings" will help you learn a lot about car control and shifting the weight around to different wheels, and will be very helpful when drift events finally do come to our area.

Who needs tracks when you have a big 12 acre slab of asphalt :).

And its right in your neck of the woods. Its in Burlington, WI just past the WI IL border.

We have the playground, now we need more kids to play :). More info once the dates are set in stone, but prolly gonna be 5 events every other week in June - August, don't quote me on that though.

You should come up to Minnesota with us when we go there too. Some of there events are just by the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Last time around it was a 5 hour drive from Chicago. So about 3 for you.

Mike13: Check local laws to see if its still legal. You may need to restrict public access to the parking lot before you can drive there.

well i like parking lots and all but busting 90 degree shitties is all it is, i feel like i need some makers but im think cones to simulate a turn is a lil extreme so i think now after a lot of parking lot practice im ganna move on to road drifting, in front of my work there a 5 lane road that DEAD after 11:00 at night im ganna try drifting on to it at like 30, might be a bad idea but ill find out.. if i ever get rich im ganna build a 1/4 by 1/4 concrete skid pad for all to come play 2$ a person or something.

Yea the south does suck. The only thing that we have in florida, is the usual empty parking lot, and streets that ppl only drag on. The only events we have here(from what I know) are those under ground import shows, and the big import shows.
