230k then got rod knock. But kept driving it to 245k till I sold it to a friend. It was auto so it was just a low speed around town and 55mph on the fwy.

i had an 89 sohc auto trans that i junked with 313k on it. it had a rod knock and smoked at higher rpm's but it never got me stranded. if i did not get my current hatch, i probably still be driving it the way it was.

seen stock cars with about 400k+ miles head gaskets usually give out at 100-145k miles

yea
had to replace my head gasket last year at 237k

engine gave me some wierd oil burning problem for 2 days. it was really bad to, like mil-spec smoke bomb oil. then disappeared

i use 10w30 oil

They make 200k easy with no H.G problem if well maintained..

I swapped in a re rolled odometer, so I don't even know how many miles mine has = /
I just change my oil when my wife changes hers :p
I think it had 170k or so on the old odometer a while ago.
It's all about teh maintenance :)

Im sorry but i was unaware that a 240 had a engine so complex that we need a thread on how long the engine last because they are so fucking expnsive to find another one

my ka24de had 207650 km (about 129000 miles if my maths correct) before i rebuilt. it was boosted for 11000 km. compression was 125 when boosted 112 when pulled/rebuilt. i was curious to see how long she'd last. could definatly feel she was gettin tired.

Mine is currently at approximately 404k miles un-opened and just blew my HG last week. It's a stock 90 SOHC auto. Thinking of going KA-T rebuild.

90 ka-e with about 150k. Drove it from san diego to west texas and didn't change the oil for a year.
Hahaha and I was going drifting every month until recently, still a beast motor.not like powerwise or anything , its slow as shit hah

190k 95 S14 with low compression (150 psi on a KA) and a leaky HG (sweet smell out of the exhaust). Idiot previous owner decided to run the car with no thermostat.

timing train is usually the death of these motors. Headgskets when they overheat, and rod knock when u over beat. Keep it cool and having a sound valve train, and the KA is a happy camper.

If it doesnt tick or knock, I guess u could buy it, but do plan to rebuild it eventually. And make sure it runs with a thermostat. ;)

IVe got a 97 hardbody with a single cam, shes at 243xxx on the clock right now. The timing chain and water pump was replaced a year ago. I think ill get a good 300k out of it. I just drove it about 850 miles there and back miles on a trip last saturday lol. Ive owned 200k mile s14's and i never had to do one thing beside change the oil and drive it. KA's are damn good engines from the luck ive had with em.

i bought my ka-e with 89k miles 2 or 3 years ago since my last one gave out but with all the abuse i did to it ,still running strong and i am also planning on boosting it sometime in the future and yes ka are getting rarer well in my area atleast

bought a 89 hatch off a grandma with 279k on it, had ALL receipts from dealership since 89.
sohc obviously.

it had 302k when i got rear ended and was still going strong!

current have a 89 coupe and its got 156k i see it going farrrrrr!
i did however take all egr stuff off and have header intake exhaust lil advanced timing so we will see if this wears on the engine a little more i fear it may.

JKL1031

what does advanced timing wear??

h2v7
02-11-2012, 11:41 AM
what does advanced timing wear??

probably nothing but with egr off intake headers and straight pipes on a NA i feel that its probably not running as perfect as it were from the factory so maybe more wear and tear on the engine than oem stuff.

haha yups its all about how u treat the motor. I beat mine to shit (drifting) full throttle the whole time. I do take care of it tho. regular oil changes or after every other event. I own my 240 for 5yrs and went thru 5 different blocks. All depends what u do with yur car.
