View Full Version : To paint or keep OEM?

We all know what a repainted engine bay can do for the overall scheme of a ride, if fact March issue of super street magazine has a few.

Understanding OEM doesn't use a glossy clear on either enginebay or trunks. Thinking about keeping the OEM paint look instead of repainting which takes away from originality of the car.

What's ur preference; to repaint to match exterior or keep OEM?

I prefer repainted engine bays to give it that updated look, but if you want to keep it OEM just clean and polish what you have. A clean stock engine bay looks just fine without repainting.

Motors already out, just take all that other shit out and spray it. Itll look a shit ton better. Even repsray it the oem color.

It doesnt look bad to me. The only thing I dont like is when its not matched with the exterior color but thats me personally I see alot of people with different colored bays its whatever your into.

I just went through this decision and I also liked the flatter look of the engine the way OEM does it. My car is pearl white so I used a gloss white in the engine bay but its not necessarily shiny.

My car is black so I'm thinking of going with a flat black in the bay and having the motor shine to show it off.

I'd always keep it OEM, always. It just looks tacky otherwise

I was looking to try something different with a more OEM look but then decided on a twin scroll top mount instead of bottom mount. Makes kinda thinking about going all the way.

as long as you don't down grade in paint. OEM everything is very nice and very clean but if the rest of the car is resprayed some other color that isn't oem or close to oem then I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm assuming that's ruby pearl/ALO paint code from the factory? If so here's my engine bay I just had repainted w/PPG ALO. That should give you an idea. If you want other angles, or more pictures let me know.

I'm planning on painting my bay a semi-gloss black. Glossy is too shiny IMO, and flat is too dull, so I'm compromising in the middle. :)

It really is personal preference... I personally hate black engine bays unless the car itself is black, there's no contrast, everyone does it, and it's just blah to me. I wanted my bay to be clean and represent the amount of work ive put into it... It's your car, do what you want with it, there will always be haters...

That ruby pearl engine bay is just beautiful! I was thinking the same thing a bit ago, I have the champagne gold exterior and I was thinking of doing the engine bay that color too because I don't like it that the color under the hood wasn't glossed from the factory

Nothing wrong with painted bays
as long as the color complements the car's
just stay away from tacky loud colors like neon green or stripper sparkle
