View Full Version : Nor Cal meet up Etiquette

It seems like everyone and thier mother are posting meet ups for the Nor Cal area.
What does this cause? quasi-sucessful meet ups in various locations all over the bay area. Beacause there is a meet up just about every other day there is less turn out beacause people feel like that they can miss this meet up and go to the other one that's two days later.

In addition, there isn't much theme to the meet ups rather than just meeting up, the only difference between meet ups and this internet forum is that we actully chat in the flesh rather than in text. Other meets that involve activities such as BBQing, sports, arcades, spirted driving ;) are much more prosperus(sp?) My point is meeting up to chat about cars is fun, but after 2 hours of standing around looking at SRs gets boring, unless you have other forms of entertainment the masses get restless.

These are just a few things I've noticed resently about these meet ups, I leave the rest of the thread open to discussion on what guidelines consitute it to be an 'offical meet up'.
I see nothing wrong if people in the east bay, south bay, sf, or north bay want to meet up with other people in thier area just for the sake of meeting people, but I don't think it should be made into a giant meet up where people living 70 some miles away should attend. I know this falls into the 'gray' catagory of what should and what shouldn't be, but IMO there should be 1 big offical meet up in the month, and regional meet ups whenever people feel like hanging out, though after a while of meet ups you should know the 240sxers in your area, and can just IM or call them up.

It just seems like the Meet ups section is too clutered up, if anyone has suggestions for meet up etiquette post em. That is if we even need etiquette at all. Maybe this way of meeting up works for people. It has it's pluses and minuses, like everything else

haha thats true. After going to the union city meet, that made me think twice about going to meets now. Nothing so spectacular about seeing other people's car's anyways, or seeing ppl roll by in a parking lot at 30mph trying to look hard.

Yups that's why I like setting up meets like this. They have everything rolled into one. A nice drive up to the park. And it is a fun drive, ask anyone who went to my first one. Second. BBQ Hopefully I could do a better job at this one, and anyone who wants to pitch in, don't bring cash, just bring some food, drinks, chips, etc... I don't care.

We can even bring a foot ball, or Valley Ball net and play some games and shit. I'm gonna bring a small TV and a PS2 so we can play some Tokyo Extreme Racer 3... LoLz...

This one will be fun if enough people show up, and enough people bring atleast one thing with em, we'll have more than enough food....

?? Is this the kinda Meet you where talking about??

If so lets try to get a lot of people at this one.

Saturdays Sac meet was my first one, but I can see where it would get boring especially if the same group always comes and nobody has any new mods. At least if we could do burn outs or spin donuts and not get in trouble it would be fun. It seems that a big meet once a month is better than little meets every weekend. That's just my opinion.

Thats not very safe anyways. Going drifting with a big crowd even a little crowd is dangerous. Try to keep it on the track or something. Maybe you meeting friends to go on a mountain run or something. Just my opinion.

Btw I wasnt at the first Grant Ranch meet but I heard good things. Ill be out for sure at the Grant Ranch 2 meet!

Why? There's probably a meet tomorrow, and another one the day after tomorrow, and another one the day after the day after tomorrow, and another one the day after the day after the day after tomorrow.

Formula for setting up a free 40+ cars NorCal 240SX meet:

1. When and where
Ask two to four friends when and where they'd like to have a meet. If you have very indecisive friends, suggest when and where and see if it'll work for them. If you ask forums or mailing lists, don't take the responses too seriously because there will probably be too many of them to consider. Just make sure the location is large enough to park 50 or more cars, and that the date won't interfere with other major events that would make members unable to show up (eg. D1GP, Christmas, etc.).

2. Getting the word out
At least two weeks prior to the meet date, post the meet info on ONLY 240SX forums and mailing lists. Request that people don't invite other car clubs or groups yet. Make the info CLEAR and ORGANIZED. State the date, time, and location. Directions would be nice too. Also state the obvious: no donuts, burn-outs, or any of that sort of stuff. Try not to sound "hard" or like you're 16 years old when you post up meet info. If anything, try to sound professional, and at least some people will think you know what you're doing.

3. Complaints, excuses, etc.
Some people will say they can't make it on the date and/or time that you have set. Some will say they'd rather see the meet at some other location. Don't change anything for them. Take their complaints and stuff into consideration for a future meet.

4. Reminders
A few days (maybe a week) prior to the meet, remind the forums and mailing lists that the meet is coming up soon. Post all the info again if necessary. If people are saying that it'll be a BBQ, and you never said that it'll be a BBQ, remind people that it won't be a BBQ.

5. Invite others
Two or three days prior to the meet, invite other car clubs and groups, and allow people to do the same. Inviting other car clubs and groups too early can results in 240SXs being a minority at the meet. Basically the later you tell people about an event, the fewer of them will show up.

6. Meet
On the day of the meet, show up early with at least one or two others driving 240SXs. About 3% of people coming will show up on time. 28% will show up within an hour. The rest will show up after an hour. Respect newbies. Hate on ricers. Touch Makoto. It would also be nice to count/estimate the number of people who showed up so that you can report it to everyone later on. Take digital pictures to post online later.

7. After the meet
Post a summary of how the meet went. Post pictures. Receive compliments and complaints. Tell people once again that 40+ cars driving together in the mountains is not a good idea. Wait at least two months before having another big meet.

The NorCal 240SX mailing list has well over 100 people subscribed. Use it! http://www.norcal240sx.org

I dunno, But hopefully I do get a good turn out on this Grant Ranch Meet.

When I did the first one I tried to organize it the best I could with it being the first time I ever organized anything.

This second one is going to be even more organized. I'm even going to reserve an Area at Grant Ranch to Garantee that the Rangers don't say anything.

The first one was kewl, the rangers didn't give us any trouble, then never said anything bad to us until it got dark and we where still hanging around. After it was over who ever wanted to go home left and those that wanted to drive stuck around and drove.

This one is going to be 100 times more organized than the first and I'm hopeing that it will come out to be a good meet.

wow there IS etiquette to a meet. Seriously browsing through the diffrent sections and seeing so many bay area meets or locals meets is really annoying. Especially funny when like 2 or 3 people show up. I think the big gathering are more better than a small every boring week thing. Oh and why the hell would meet to go drifting in a big pack? Daniel is on point and it is stupid to go ESPECIALLY in a big ass group. Anyhoo. I think these semi-week(end)/meetups are very unsuccessful.

dude whatever. I've been to the same dirty girls meets, and its the same shit more or less. Trading parts, food, tech talk, music and girls (sometimes) are a given. That happens at just about every meet. Dougnut contests are shuned upon at public venues, and the basketball/volleyball is an ace idea, but not often promoted.
Anyways..
I posted this in January, 11 months ago, I think the meet action has calmed down since then.
so mission accomplished
