I have pics of my alternator upgrade. I did it recently and decided to share it with others.
The differences between a KA and Quest alternator.

I didn't post directions on how to take it apart and put it together. There's a writeup somewhere on zilvia or nico about this. The only thing you have to modify is the lower part of the bracket that holds the alternator. You have to drill it with a 3/8 in order for the bolt to slide in.

Where did you get that bracket, and how many amps is that alternator? I saw you said Cody, but who is Cody, how do I get in touch with him, and how much did it run you?
I really need to do this upgrade on my KA.. running over 3.5k watts on the stock 90A alternator is a joke. lol

Alright man thanks, Ill PM him. Im looking online for a junkyard to pull one of these alts from.. could someone clarify how many amps a stock alt from the 99-01 Quest is? Is it 110A or 125A? Ive seen both on ebay, confused on which it is.

I need to do this upgrade. I'm not sure how old my alternator is. But when it craps out, I'm doing this upgrade. Is there really a noticeable difference in how the engine runs??

I did the swap a while back, my sr runs great now! Codyace bracket i think was around $50 and the quest alt you want is the late 90s 125amp. The early 90s quest had the 115amp

I will be doing this for sure.
Does anyone know if its possible to fit an even bigger alt? Did any other nissans have a bigger alt than the quest?

Why do you think you need a bigger alternator than the quest upgrade?

Im running a sundown SAZ 3000 @ .67 ohms. Almost 4000W RMS.
It needs ALOT of juice..

Did this install on my sr a 2 weeks ago, alt from a 99 Quest 125 Amp. Easy mod. Alt + splitfires = very smooth accelaration. IMO. recommend for all sr & ka owners.

I just did this mod today on my KA24DE. Quest was from a 1997 Quest.. 110 Amps.
It was not easy by any means. Today sucked. I had to modify the stock alternator bracket, use a different top bolt, try 3 different length belts, modify the bottom and top of the alternator, and then finally got it working. Nothing went right. I took my alt off and didnt have anything to drive to the store, so I drove there on battery power, got 2 belts, came home.. pulled the power steering belt off to replace the alt belt, and both belts were too long. Drove back to the store with no power steering, and apparently no cooling fan.. and then my car starting pouring out steam from under the hood. Pulled over, tightened the belt by hand.. and drove home. Today sucked.
Voltage drop isnt quite as bad now at idle.. Im tempted to just raise the idle on my car to about 1k~, which would help. Lights still dim just a little bit on certain songs... not quite the increase I was hoping for. Of course the alternator is OLD and rusty as hell.. which probably isnt helping.

The reason steam was coming from under your hood is because without running your power steering belt it wasnt turning your water pump so it was overheating. I dont recommend you do that.
OP it looks like you did the p/s delete with the one belt from water pump- crank pulley- alt pulley. I have the same setup. Was the install the same or did you have to do any other modifications?

@ op, So you just got the alt to work correctly with just different bolts, modding the alternator and different belt sizes? Care to post up a few pictures of your setup with p/n of the belts you purchased please. Thanks! And im curious of what your audio setup is with subs, lets see it

Yeah I know. Nothing was moving.. no water, no fan. I stopped as soon as I saw steam, it didnt get too hot because it cooled off literally within 5 minutes.
Ive gotta buy that bracket. The stock one sucks and doesnt let you adjust it enough to get all the slack out of the belt.

This was one of the easiest and cheapest upgrade I did on my KA.
I didn't even spend $50 on a bracket. There's a writeup on how to mod the alternator and all that jazz floating around the internet.
Good luck to anyone trying this. It's simple and straight forward.
