drift king dosnt like s13's!!!

i just whatched the drift bible with the drift king as the instructor and he show off his skills in a lot of cars but he seems to not like the s13 and talks about its poor front wheel grip and even yells at you.. hes like s13 has poor front wheel grip porbably just LIKE YOURS! and point.. lol hes seems like a great guy though. just wondering if anyone else saw this and if it made the sad to see such a ledgend talk down on the s13...

Yah they obviously havent drifted S13s AND S14s back to back. S14s are way better. S13s rock cause they are still cheap and im poor, but if I could have any S chassis in US it would be S14 w/ S14 SR and everything I have done to my S13. S14 is a MUCH stiffer chassis.

does it really matter what he thinks?

Yes, the s14 chassis is definitely stiffer than the s13, but at the same time you have to consider driver preferences as well. He may not like driving the s13 in general, who knows. Although, i have the dvd and i dont recall him bad mouthing the car, he just said the s13 understeers more than the s14 STOCK.

But regardless, its your car, who cares what others think.

Yeah. My friends' S13 with most suspension arms replaced, a 7 point cage and 9/7 Apex coilovers was about as stiff as his new car: S14 with 9/7 (iirc) coilovers and that was it (when he first bought it).

Add onto that a rollcage and adjustable arms.... NICE. Im not knocking the S13 (well kinda) but I will give it props. I mean it was designed in the 80s. Early 80s. For it to be as good as it still is is great. But its not an S14. BTW I own an S13 and used to have S14. While I would prefer a modded S13 to a stock S14, I still think the S14 is a better car.

I definately agree that those are factors in the s14's favor. However, I do find it very hard to believe that an s13 with a properly built and triangulated 8-point cage is just on par (chassis stiffness wise) with an s14..

Mounting points for the cage aren't that different. You'll still be connecting the mian hoop to the strut towers in the rear. All the other points are the same too.

My only point here is that you can make up for any difference in chassis stiffness.. Look at ITS racing.. They race 240Z's with E36 bmw's competetively. And there are barely any differences in how stiff those cars are once they have full cages in them. Granted, these are RACE cages with NASCAR bars, and gussets and petty bars, etc, and they aren't advised to drive on the street, but it does go to an extreme to express a point.

Well if you wanted to run the cage to the trunk, couldn't you just run the tubes through the speaker holes on the rear deck? I've seen another car like that, can't remember if it was an S chassis though. That would kill your already limited trunk space, but if your running that many tubes, I guess it doesn't really matter in the first place(unless that's where you keep your two drifting spares).

Seeing as we are on the topic of cages, I was watching an option Vid, and they had a 7 with what it looked like was a full 9 point, but instead of stoping at the fire wall, it went thought the firewall and welded on to the strut tower, well not on top on the side, wouldent that help a crap load because it would connect the front more to the body, kinda like what fender braces do.

I need imput, cuz my next mod is a cage, so I need to see what im going to do

That's cool. From what I remeber from the brochure it was basically a kouki 180SX with the S13 aero bumper, CA square headlights, and I'm pretty sure it had a fin type grill. It came with the SR20DET or DE. I wish I could find that brochure. Anywho I'm sure there are pictures of it floating around.

I dunno why this thread turned into a discussion of chassis stiffness. If you watch Drift Bible again, you'll notice Tsuchiya mentions the understeer will go away with suspension mods. This is because of low front end weight and poor factory alignment specs....

BTW, The s13 coupe is lighter and stiffer than the fastback and has a better weight balance for front grip because of the less rear end weight.

well, I have owned and attempted to drift both S14's and S13's in stock form. Just got the S13 but my initial impression is that its smoother and easier to drift than the S14 was when it was stock. My S13 is all stock right now, but its a dohc coupe base model with zero options, I was thinking this is probably one of the lightest 240's right? also my S14 had no rear swaybar and wider tires.

I got about halfway through the "Bible" and was like, "WTF, why am I watching this dude?" He was acting and talking like a duder, and when the MR2 rolled around I turned it off, I couldn't stand to watch him parade around telling me how to do everything, and exactly how I was going to do certain things wrong the first time, just like he did. Screw Tsuchiya, you drive your car super happy fun dorifto into a curb, no understeer for you!

Honestly though, as a beginner, you're not going to notice, "WTF, this is NOT as stiff as a newer S14, what gives?!?!?"

I think that's pretty sweet that he daily drives that but daily driven in japan is a lot different then here with there smoothe roads and great public transportation. I know the roads suck some places but in general, those fucking roads are heaven compare to here. I'm just not down with the color. I wish I could see a pic of it in the day. I bet it wouldn't look as good but I could be wrong. I'm more a fan of a deep red or the blue on the URAS one is pretty sweet as well. The wing on that onevia is the sickness. Flows perfectly with the front end. The cool thing is that the onevia looks great wingless as well. Yeah, I agree that the URAS one would look better with some pimped out WORK VS-XX or some crazy ass mesh but I love that body and paint.

As for kouki front on onevias, I really love that look. I would so sport one of those GP sports bumpers with some kind of flat sideskirt unlike the real kouki one. I don't think the kouki sideskirt would look good on a coupe and I'm not a big fan of it in general.

well now its up in the air..because the shop we WERE going to is yaddayaddayadda.etc soooo see what happens. i can have it prepped and ready within a day and a 1/2.

also im waiting for my full rear bumper and sides to come in..so AIMING for next week. sometime..i HOPE

kouki sides look OK on a coupe but not great. its taste tehere, i dont like it. i think straight edge is best on all.

The wing on that onevia is the sickness. Flows perfectly with the front end. The cool thing is that the onevia looks great wingless as well. Yeah, I agree that the URAS one would look better with some pimped out WORK VS-XX or some crazy ass mesh but I love that body and paint.

Dousan, so when are you going to less us know the paint color you're getting? I hope you don't get the one I want but it's cool if you do.

The URAS one does have nicer paint, but i dont like the styling...the wheels and wing that is. The wheels are WAY too plain for a kit that flashy and the wing just doesnt look right. I'd vote for the URAS one even if they left the wing, if they just used some nicer wheels. The sexy knights sexy style one, despite its odd color and abused front bumper, flows a lot better. Again this is just my opinion.

nah..the one that got smacked up is TOTALED...just waiting on insurance money...although they did let me keep the car..they said it is my responsibility to dispose of it because of the distance it is from their office or some yada yada yada BS...but it's cool with me cause it just means more money since i can part it out as the only damage was to the front of it...

i'm picking up another coupe though...hopefully within the next week or so...and yes, it will stay onevia this time...no more silvia front end...too expensive..too popular..

i may even be at Shine Street, or whatever it is, but without a car, just to hang out and check the rides...prolly roll in with Dirty D or Kooosher...i'll be sure to say hi though if i do..:)

WoW we'r all silvia fans no need to be hatin on anything, we have what we have and we like what we have, more often then not, i gota s13 fastback and im more a fan of that then a coupe because i never drove a coupe its just how it is we'r all lovers not haters

You all are forgetting the MOST important fact.

You can hone your skills much deeper in an S13 because you must be a BETTER DRIVER to compensate for the understeer and the backlash that is experienced in an S13 under extreme driving situations such as very fast drifting & downhill battles.

With experience, some of the chassis flex -can- work toward your advantage. You just must know it first nature.

Once you learn the car, the S13 can do what you ask it and the s14 becomes a walk in the park. If you really wanna hone your skills, drift an '81 2 door corolla with a 3TC and keep up with an S14 doing it.


BTW West, I love the new site look and higher speed loading.

i think its all a matter of personal opinion on which one you like better, but for what you pay, the S13 is a much better value.
