On my recently acquired coupe I noticed the big port on the rear passenger side of the valve cover doesn't have anything attached to it. I know it's not a big deal to just throw a breather on it and be done but I was thinking, would it be better to just hook it to a vacuum source? I feel like it may run better with the case gasses being sucked out rather than just moving on their own but then again I am completely new to sr's

Some people run it to a catch can, some block it off, it really is personal preference. If you don't have your factory catch can hooked up, I would plumb it back in. I personally run mine back to the intake manifold and have an aftermarket catch can setup.

That line is supposed to go to a splitter just above the fuel rail. From the splitter, one end goes into a couple of the intake runners so that air is burned up.
There are a bunch of ways you can change the way it works. Me, I am going to run that breather outlet to a catch can. I've capped off the two ports on the intake manifold and removed the T section.
On the driver side, I have the forward part of the T capped off, as well as the OEM catch can drain capped off. Then from the rear of the T, that goes to the other port on my catch can.
Throw a breather on the catch can and done.
