Im bought a s13 with a ka24de.A month after i melted the spark plugs to the head due a coolant leak i wasnt aware of.. I recently found out i have dual exhaust cam in d head along with flat pistons.. I got the head machined. My question is should i install the head with oem timing spec or go straight to the retard the timing.. i dont know what to do, friends tell me to go with oem that after 300 miles, do the adjustment

Idk about the timing but sounds like your internals maybe from a single cam which would raise thw.compression ratio a bit.

+1 to that. those are either single cam pistons or aftermarket flat tops. the cam isn't hurting anything. i have many friends that have them and have never had problems. since your compression is higher with those pistons, you should be running higher octane fuel, at least 91 if 93 isn't available. also if you haven't already bought timing stuff, i would HIGHLY recommend getting an OSK timing kit.

ok so i should retard it one tooth? and yea i know about running it wit higher octane

i would set it to 4 teeth ccw. thats what i did when i put mine in. note the exhaust cam and the intake cam have notches in different spots. at tdc the first intake lobe should be facing out towards the passanger side wheel and the exhaust cam should be facing out towards the driver side wheel. If you set the exhaust cam to the stock specs for the intake cam this will not be the case and could potentianlly end in a very bad way...
with the 4 tooth ccw rotation your cam lobes should look like this http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt143/Idahos13/007-1.jpg

The flat top piston are from the Sohc.... So which raise the compression.... The dual exhaust cam setup is a nice setup... Gives you more low end torque.... But set it back to factory timing don't retard it....

we retard the exhaust cam 3 teeth. we tried it retarded 4 teeth and it didn't run as well, even after playing with the ignition timing.
