View Full Version : Help, fireball out of throttle body

So my car wont start, its turning over but it wont fire up. Im thinking it has something to do with timing. I've already checked the timing chain and it seems to be in the correct position. I double checked the distributor timing and that also seems to be in the correct position. Cylinders keep getting flooded with too much fuel, and it ends up shooting a fireball out of the throttle body. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

also, i tried googling this issue and also using the search function in this forum with no such luck prior to making another thread, if anybody could point me in the direction of some helpful info that'd be cool too.

Don't give any details like what engine - that'd be too easy.

But it sounds like a KA. You probably have your plug wires on wrong or somehow managed to put your distributor in 180 deg off (is that possible?).

^^^ what he said. Get ahold of a factory service manual, they have tons of knowledge.

It's a timing problem. Make sure your distributor is on right and the 2 and 4 plug wires aren't swapped.

it turned out being something really dumb, but it wasnt timing. we had that all dialed in correctly. thx for the help tho.

^^^ding ding ding.. but i guess, if it might help someone out in the future.
:We had the inlet and return fuel lines that go into the top of the fuel rail mixed up when we hooked them back up. So fuel was going into the return side and straight into cylinder 1 without having to pass through the Fuel Pressure Regulator, Thus flooding out cylinder 1 every time we went to turn the car over. It took a day for us to realize it because we were so sure it was timing. But i guess it all worked out cuz now i am sure my timing is on point.

and it was firing past the intake valves though the intake manifold why...?

because the fuel lines were mixed up........... try again

well i guess we fixed the timing for the dizzy first but then ran into the issue of the cylinders flooding, after the timing was fixed. forgot to mention that.

yea i dont see how the fire was getting into your throttle body, maybe go through and check everything about the injection and timing is setup correctly anyways

how would the fire come out of of the intake if the valves are closed when the motor fires? if it was igniting fuel that wasnt even in the cylinder then you could have caused more damage there as well

also i would check the tps and related parts if i had fireballs

ya i just realized how dumb i sounded. But we did fix the timing first, and then it wouldnt ignite at all, and it was because the cylinders were flooded.

You shit is still messed up if you think reversing the lines was the fix for the cylinders flooding. O-ring or faulty leaking injectors will cause a cylinder to flood, but reversed fuel lines. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANOO!
So you probably have to reverse you lines again!

What was the fix? you still haven't answered it! May it was butterflies and russian unicorns. They work magic!
Just busting balls right know, because I know how you fixed it!

Don't lie. You don't want to know to help people. You're just as giddy as me, waiting for the answer so we can laugh our asses off.
