So I got a car from a friend a while back. Its a 90 hatch se. Everything on the car seems fine, only the engine wont stay on unless I step on the gas to keep it idling (Stock KA SOHC). I haven't gone past 2k rpm since I dont want to break it. The MAF works and I think I connected every hose I could find disconnected except for 2 that are right under where the throttle body is (It has 3 tiny lines that are close to each other). Now I am stuck -__-. I changed the starter and it starts now but it wont stay on. Anyone have any ideas, wana help? Friends told me its probably a vacuum leak but I am not that great with engines.
1st time owning an sohc so idk much about it either.
Thanks everyone.

I'm having a similar problem with my KA24de, It drives fine but when I rev it to high and dont stay on the gas the motor just shuts down. I was told it could be IAC valve. I haven't try to fix it cause it drives fine as long as I keep it under 4000rpms.

Ah mine turns off on its own, only stays on for about 1 second. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it on. Ive been looking for a vacuum diagram but haven't found one yet. Hope you get your car running well :)

Simple stuff first, vacume lines, fuel filter, maf...but you already checked that. spark plug, caps and wires. maybe its a combo of all that.

Yeah, if you have three hoses on the throttle body loose that's why it won't stay on, if you can post pics of what's disconnected then I can take a look at my neighbors SOHC and tell you where everything belongs

I checked the MAF and it worked. The sparkplugs and wires look good as well (Gonna change them soon to be safe). Havent checked the fuel filter though.

I can post a picture tomorrow morning.
I found a leak on one of my gas lines as well so I will change that to make sure its not that.

Ok sounds good, i'll post a video on youtube after you send me the pic showing you where they go.
yeah get that leak fixed asap man, that also could be the reason it won't stay on, no fuel pressue

Here are the pictures. You can see everything that I found that is disconnected. The previous owner didn't really know how to take care of the car (As you can tell).

On the image below, I just connected a hose (One of the three that were missing) to the top of this little tank/can

Random hose I found disconnected under the radiator

I took of the hose on the image below off because it was leaking gas. I will replace it with a new hose soon.

The three hoses I was talking about. Only the middle one was connected when I got the car. I added the both outside ones but have no idea where they go. I connected the one on the right to the vacuum tank (the image above).

Any idea where the one on the 3rd pic goes to? Or do I just cover it?

more than likely. It was a vacuum issue. Check maf fuel filter then vacuum lines.
