Have a 90 s13 with 160k on the chasis. Recently installed a used ka24E replacement motor since my original blew. This engine supposably has 85k*.
So.. This is my 2nd engine swap. I am running OBX headers, brand new custom exhaust w/ cat delete 2.5". EGR delete, cruise control delete, AIV delete, a/c delete, intake and cut springs hahah. NO check engine light. But im having bogging issues right after i put in SEAFOAM. 1/4 tank of gas and 1/4 tank of seafoam. Then i put about 2 or 3 pints in the oil. I was driving around and it was lacking power up at 3000 rpms and up. Bogging and kinda choking a little bit.. My idle is pretty good (900-1100rpms) Also bellowing white smoke with a little bit of blue(seafoam??!) but then stopped shortly after. I know i for sure need to do a timing adjustment, but what else should i do in order to make this engine run AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE?! Any advice helps!!!!!

Seafoam burns white. Blue smoke sounds like oil.

I tuned the distributer and it runs much better! Way smoother and more power, but still lacks power. my friend is going to bring over a timing light tomorrow so that will help.
I gave it an oil change (10-30) and put in some premium gas after the seafoam had burnt through the last of my old gas. It does not smoke while driving, only a little poof when i start up sometimes. So we're making progress!
My idle sticks a little bit after i rev it or when its cold.. Is this a vacuum issue?
ALSO, i hear a little rattling noise in the top of the engine when i go past around 2500k. Sounds like a light pinging.. This happened RIGHT after i did the oil change. What the hell is it? and any other advice on whats next????
Thanks for the feedback!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely get that timing perfect.
That little poof is probably the valve stem seals leaking a little oil into the cylinders when it isn't running. I bet if you floored it and looked behind you, you would probably see a little smoke.
It could be a vacuum issue, but I would clean and adjust the IACV first.
For the pinging, are you sure it's not just valve tick? A valve adjustment will fix that right up.

Yeah i will do the timing when i start it up tomorrow.
And is there any additive i could use to help the poof? The motor HAS been sitting for a few months at least.. So i assume it needs to flush some of that sitting crud.....
and i will look into that IACV. i dont know exactly what that is, but i will do some research!
And i dont think it is a valve tick. But then again i am not completely sure. And i will look up how to do a valve adjustment! Thanks bud.

Lucas Oil Stabilizer is a thickening agent for oil that helps slow the burn rate. I use it in my Prelude because it burns a little.

That Idle Air Control Valve is on the intake. It's near the firewall, towards the bottom.
How To Clean Idle Air Control Valve (http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/cleaning-idle-air-control-valve.html)
It could be a valve tick, or it could be the timing chain guides rattling.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man! Yeah im a fan of the Lucas products. I will add some just to be safe even though i dont burn oil.
I FOUND OUT MY ISSUE.
I pulled my valve cover after listening to the rattle, and it is DEF the timing chain GUIDE. ( the one on the right hand side of the chain if looking into the engine bay ) It has much
slack due to a chewed up guide, which is what is causing the rattle noise.... This is a common problem apparently for the KA24E. i found a couple pieces of the guide in my chain while looking at it with a flashlight... Ew.
So on my parts motor, the timing chain and guide seem to have already been replaced and are in GREAT condition. So, i need to replace the chain and guide on the engine in my car, and i believe my project will be done after this. :) thank you for your help!
I found a thread for my engine that is a 74* step process. I am going to do this very carefully as soon as i can get a motor hoist to lift my parts engine in order to drop my oil pan so i can get to the timing chain cover.
