View Full Version : Small Car Battery for sr20???

Bought a silvia sr20 1990 coupe in august and been having Electrical issues with it.. not starting too well etc...
Long story short I want to move my battery back into the engine bay since its currently in my trunk. However the IC piping did sorta cut out the spot where the battery should be at, and I'd say I have enough room to put a small battery next to it once I clear the 2 stupid HID ballases I don't need. I have been searching and seen that Braille batteries seem really small as well as miata's any suggestions??? Also since I'm not too too knowledgeable about the voltage and such I need.. that would help too.
Been searching as well so don't hate. Thank You!

miata battery, fits almost perfectly sideways, cheap and replaceable any where, and the same CCA as most 240 batts.

I wouldn't expect that eliminating your battery relocation is going to solve your starting problem, its possible, but highly unlikely your problem...

I ran a lawnmower battery for a while.
It works, but doesn't last all that long. On the plus side, since it had a warranty, I just kept trading it in at autozone.
If you want a proper small battery, get a Braille or something.

I was about to ask this question a while back when my car's battery gave out, and noticed that the one I was trying on from my friend's S13 didn't fit mine because of the IC piping.
Took my old one to AutoZone and turns out it was from a Miata. 60 bucks to get it replace, so it was pretty cheap.

I had a miata battery for awhile but it didnt last too long. Kept having to replace it. So i finally just went optima and relocated it. But I wish i would have just gotten a braille or kinetic. Those are badass.

I have gotten my alternator and starter rebuilt still does it... And the previous owner used a SUB wirer as a battery cable and basically electrical taped all the HID connections to a jumper cable in the engine bay, figured that wire has a bad ground somewhere possibly rubbing somewhere.
The red wire to the left (its worse as it goes down but didn't take that picture)

Relocating the battery is not a solution. 99% of us on this forum run batterys in the back. I would recommend finding the real source of the problem.

Consider looking into getting a new ignition chip.

Hard starts may result from a failing unit.

I rana lawnmower battery for a year but found out that they only really last for a year. Replaced it with an Odyssey PC925, and it clears the intercooler piping easily.

The Shuriken SK-BT20 battery is tiny, cheap, and I have not had any problems with it yet. I also purchased the optional box and terminals along with it, all for about 100$. :)

Evolution forums did some digging a while back and got a response from Braille where they give a sketchy reply about their great customer serivice. They don't really say whether or not their battery is made by deka. Which is great because I about ordered another Braille 2015 the other day before I started researching. I googled Braille and "braille rebaged deka came up lol". The dimensions are the same, it looks the same, and braille removed some of the specs after the allegations came out because I know they used to publish more specs on their site.
I'm going with the deka. I've heard you can get it for 65 shipped. Where?
All I can find is Deka ETX20L Power Sports AGM Battery (http://www.etx20l.com/) for $85 shipped with 1 year warranty(same as Braille's).
