View Full Version : S13 Aero Bumper & 180 Kouki Lip Reproduction Interest! (Produced in Polyurethane)

in speaking with a customer of mine today, i proposed an idea to him. he owns and runs a company that produces high end body kits for the 370z and G37. he also owns and runs a company that produces super expensive 3 piece custom wheels. i shot the idea by him about having him reproduce the S13 silvia aero bumper and 180sx kouki lip in polyurethane for me to sell to you guys. he was very interested in the idea.
now, before you chime in and bitch about quality and me knocking off OEM nissan parts, i want to get this out in the open. before he releases a product, he produces a prototype, this protype is fitted and properly molded to the car for 100% fitment (these are 370z and G37s were talking about). zipties and body clamps dont cut it. once he is happy with fitment, he makes the final mold and goes to town. if i contract him to produce these, they will be clean and properly fitting replicas in polyurethane...not cheap fiberglass copies that shatter when you look at them wrong. he will even be replicating the plastic vents as seperate pieces so you wont be stuck with a half complete bumper. the 180sx kouki lip would be a direct bolt on for the kouki bumper as well (just like oem fitment). im halfway tempted to have him reproduce the 180 zenki lip and zenki/chuki s13 sideskirts.
pricing for the bumper and lip would be VERY fair. we have a basic price point that is in talks and compared to what you guys are paying for used, broken, torn and beat up originals, the prices will be a down right steal.
so who would be interested in purchasing one? i have a VERY low buy-in limit so they would go to production even if i received 10 orders.
im going to try to produce these with a "aero by dorkidori" badge on the inside of them too ;)

i wanted to do these as well .. but crimsonrockett already makes nice 180sx type-x lips replicas. for a decent price.. it would be nice if you could do the lips in polyurethane. for around the same price..
as far as the s13 aero bumpers go .. i really wanted to make them but i couldn't figure out how to replicate the mesh in the grills... if you could do that then your golden

if you can replicate a 180sx kouki front bumper, and the fender extensions and lip, I'm interested. do you mean as a whole bumper. like a molded in bumper extensions and lip.. kinda like the hot road bumper

dude they make all but the lip still and they arent even expensive just incase you were unaware of this fact,
This sounds like a great idea for both do you have pictures of his other work so we have an idea of quality, unfortunately I have a lip and nothing to put a aero bumper on, although depending on price I could still spend money on stuff I don't need

Count me in for a type-x lip!
Called Fontana Nissan and they said that the left bumper extension for the kouki 180sx is now discontinued.if you make the whole bumper in one piece with the lip, then count me in!it will be so awesome though if you make a hot road kit in polyurethane ill be all up on it!

hot road in urethane wouldnt be cost efficient because not only are there very few in the US, but getting one that isn't used yet would be expensive
I'm interested in the aero bumper!! I'd take 3. Right now.

I don't see the need to make a lip really. Like someone posted earlier, crimson already makes an awesome replica type-x lip at a decent price and from what I've seen, it fits great.
Replica hotload though..

I have a jdm aero bumper but only thing I'm missing is the vents.
I'm in for vents even though I feel I'll lose exclusivity of having the jdm aero bumper.
What we really need is s13 coupe valences!
How about a.lip with the aero bumper

If the pricing for your urethane lip is around the same, or a little more than the fiberglass ones currently for sale, I'd be down.

180 lip, but it needs to be like $75-100 shipped.
Other urethane lips for cars like integra and 350z are around $50 shipped...
it's kind of ridiculous that a reproduction lip should cost as much or more than the oem bumper cover.

s13 aero bumper replica would be fantastic. i would also love to see oem replicas of rare sideskirts and rear valences made as well from the silvia and 180sx models.

I too would be in for an S13 Silvia Aero bumper that isn't overpriced and brand spanking new.
Though what would be your plans for the grill inserts? Considering some people have paid nearly half of what some aero bumpers have gone for I'd say polyurethane replicas would be in order as well.

probably looking at spring time-ish...im going to need someone to donate a S13 aero bumper for this project. the bumper will be returned in perfect shape. the molding method used will NOT destroy the piece being molded. but ill cross that bridge when were ready

Will it be made with a provision for the license plate? Hopefully not as it kinda kills the clean look.

it will be an exact copy of the original aero bumper. we will be producing the mold from an OEM/real s13 aero bumper.
though i think we may be doing it out of FRP as the polyurethane is having issues with heat and things sag a bit (stillen had this EXACT issue with their bumpers for the 370z and G37...they stopped producing them in poly and switched to high quality FRP). but this isnt cheap 1 layer FRP like knock off companys dump out all day long. from what ive seen of the FRP his company uses, you can twist the bumpers in half and it doesnt break. the fitment will be SPOT on before we begin producing them though. i dont want people complaining that it doesnt fit right ;)
the ONE thing im half tempted to modify though, the inside air dam. i know a lot of you are going to have to cut this out for a FMIC (im included in there). i may shorten it up a bit over the stock bumper since its the most annoying part of the bumper (and it also deforms really easily since we dont have the OEM mounts holding it in place)

Not really interested if it's not polyurethane nor if it's not exactly like OEM.
If it ends being a fiberglass rep, I'd only buy if it's stupid cheap. Otherwise I rather continue the search for a real one.
Also, what are your plans regarding the vent grilles?

How much harder would it be to get made in polyurethane/polypropylene like most OEM bumpers? I like the idea of a bumper not breaking if I happen to come across an unavoidable dip or something of that sort.

project is on hold for the moment, i will know more around april/may on exactly when im going to release the silvia aero bumper.
IF the aero bumper does well, i will see what i cant do about replicating other OEM aero pieces (i personally want some chuki skirts that arent beat to shit)
+1 for aero bumper.... sorry ik its on hold but DO WANT

Depending on the final production price of the Silvia Aero bumper, I would absolutely buy on.
The only thing is, a whole FRP bumper can be twisted on the longitudinal axis with out much issue when not fixed on a car. But what about its durability in cooler weather(not snow), being deformed on its Latitudinal axis, high speed impacts and such of the similar. Granted, I have seen many higher quality FRP aero parts sustain some fairly knarly hits and potholes, and the mainstay of the parts were fine with minor scratches. But then only to find out the mounting areas were broken off instead of flexing.
So basically what I'm getting at with useless banter is; If you can get as close to OEM quality as possible, but keep the price under what actual OEM ones go for on the RARE ocassion they do come up for sale.
Then YES. I would absolutely buy one. Because it would be entirely new and unpainted.
Also a side idea or two.
-Make an option to have a deleted plate bracket mount(cleaner and easier for us to relocate the plate off to the side).
-Find SOMEONE who has the OEM Silvia Aero Front Lip and replicate that as well as an undermount bolt on. And make it about a 1/4-1/2" taller.
-ABSOLUTELY replicate the OEM Silvia side skirts. I'm sick of seeing people trying to sell the 180SX skirts as Silvia skirts.
-And if business goes well, JUN made a "Bonnet Lip" that went on the hood above the center grill. It was an aftermarket aero that I think is now discontinued. Paintable FRP and CarbonFiber would be nice.
