Sr in s14
Wiring specialties upper and lower harness

Car drove fine when i had the ka harness plugged in w/o speedo. But now that i have everything hooked up the car wont go above 65 & the speedometer reads 115-120mph. Can the speedometer be acting like a fuel cut to the ecu? And why would the speedometer be that far off?

anyone have any thoughts

sounds like you have the sr speed sensor so your reading in kilometers so you need the ka speed sensor to read mph

also, you might have a built in speed limiter on the ecu. some older jdm ecu`s have that. i remember back in the day when jdm honda b16a`s were popular. they had a 112 mph speed limiter. we used to use Fields SAFC to defeat it. check on that.

Wrong, USDM & JSPEC VSS are exactly the same.

SR's have a speed cut at 120 so if ur gauge is messed up and sending the 120 signal to the ECU then it will cut out

Okay yes then speed sensors are the same but there gear that turns it wont be rite? The gear is what is gonna spin it faster or slower changing the resistance, which will change the signal voltage. Or is it the gauge cluster itself that is read in kph. Correct me if im wrong but pretty sure the car is reading kph not mph.

what your saying sounds correct but i have always used jdm speed sensor and they all read correctly in mph i think what changes is the actual cluster. The speed sensors are the same.

I'm assuming you have a s13 SR correct? You need the s14 speed sensor. Quick fix is to cut the yellow/green wire going into the ecu. This is your VSS signal to ecu

Thanks guys...Wiring specialties makes the harness to work with the SR speed sensor so im pretty sure its not the speed sensor. But it does make sense that id need the s14 speed sensor instead of s13 for it to work with the cluster

Anarchyperf- yes its a s13 SR in a s14

Missed that part, that's ur issue

So get a s14 SR speed sensor and i should be good to go? Guessing both ka and sr s14 speed sensor will work, id just need to rewire the speed sensor plug if i chose to use the ka speed sensor....Correct? Just making sure

you gotta match the VSS with the cluster.
S13 Speedo= S13 VSS
S14 Speedo= S14 VSS

KA and SR are exactly the Same.

Got it, thanks

You're gonna need the pigtail with that speed sensor.

I have an S13 sr in my S14. I think I used the KA Speed sensor from the original engine. Didnt touch anything else- works fine.
