Just got this engine .......Took 3 pictures that show the first lobe for the Intake and Exhaust.
Also a link that explains it but is the "pin" the same thing as the "dimple" on the cam gear? or would I have to remove the cams to actually tell what they are? they are both stamped with a number 2 .

S14 intake (232) - orange stripe, first lobe is aligned with the alignment pin
S14 exhaust (232) - green stripe, first lobe is about 4 teeth clockwise from the pin
S13 intake (240) - green stripe, first lobe is aligned with the pin
S13 exhaust (248) - orange stripe, first lobe is 4 teeth clockwise from the pin

here is the link to Zilvia previous thread........... http://zilvia.net/f/s-chassis/405846-sooo-confused-about-cams.html
to me, according to the information above, they switched the s14 cams around? So Do i have the s14 intake on the exhaust side and the stock s14 exhaust cam on the intake side?
if this is true, the durations may be the same--232,232---but they actually open up at different times, because if you look at the rest of the lobes, after the first, they start to change postition and are not the same as each other and the ECU not being tuned for this would tend to see too much air coming in or not enough? causing it to sound like im flooring it, car actually feels like about 100hp, but is driveable, compression is 165 accross, timing is correct, turns on all the time with no struggle.
so which ka24de cams do you think I have?
Also I manually turned the crank to see if there was a "I" or "E" stamped on either of the cams but there was not.

ye you have the cams on the wrong sides. the "pin" is the post sticking off the cam that the cam gear locates on. the dimple you have circled on the gear itself is used for timing. Also the lobes will not match on each cylinder as every cylinder is on a different stroke.

Oh wow,i wonder why the previous owner did that? No wonder it sounds like i'm flooring it with 10 % throttle.time to switch them then., so I will be using the cam gears that are currently being used correct?like the green camshaft will use that same cam gear when I switch it to other side.

no idea, maybe he didnt know which was which, you can run the exhaust cam on the intake side but i think you have to retard it or something. i cant remember without it looking up again. but yeah the cam gears are the same for both cams, but you have to remove one of the gears to get the cams out.

actually looking at these cams now that they are off, and looking at the information I found, they are s13 intake and exhaust cams , but I have an s14 vehicle with s14 ECU, the cams were installed how it should be installed in a s13, so im assuming the s14 ECU is not able to adjust correctly to these, unless I install them a certain way??? any help on how to re-install these a certain way so it would work with my s14 ecu would be helpfull, or i'll take some stock s14 cams for trade, which i'll post in the WANTED section, I dont really care about getting a few HP with these, but if i can get it to work today with retarding a cam or advancing it I'll do it.again, beacuse these were installed how they should be in a s13 on my s14,its not how the engine should run.
