Gold or White Engine bay?
Recently sold my rb25, and currently doing a 302 swap. I am going to paint the floors, and engine bay. What you think? Gold or white? Color codes would help to. I been dolling over the Gold engine bays latly. Just can't get over the clean white look... =( Inspiration please!
Also going to aftermarket areo now =) and slightly smaller wheels. This is going to be my all out slide car now.
Pictures so so you know the color of the car. This is my car.

I think gold look better with the exterior color. You should consider color matching the new wheels with the gold too.

Neither? White will be difficult to keep clean and gold is, in my opinion, tacky.

I was considering the same thing but some light colour, not yet specific on the colour. I seen my buddy's track kouki and his chassis is white and the engine bay is clean and empty, so it makes his SR the center of attention. and I love an empty as possible engine bay with just the necessities BUT I have a black car my self. I was considering something like light blue or teal colour.
have you considered colours other than gold and white?

What kind of rear overs are those and is it hard to fit the sideskirt with them on?

Engine bays should always be semi or gloss black IMO. Hides dirt/grime and isn't an eyesore because the body is a different color. Off colored engine bays are obnoxious.

White is hella easy to keep clean... how does your engine bay really get dirty anyway? After I get done washing my car, I pop the hood and dry the engine bay like I would my door jambs.... just use a bath towel and dry/wipe down all of the visible paint. Takes all of about 3 minutes. No matter if I drive in a rainstorm or not, the bay never really gets nasty if you just simply wipe it down when you wash the car.

However, I would never paint my bay other than the color of the car... just looks cheesy and childish. Keep in mind I'm almost 38 years old though.

I agree with this. i think you should do it black to match the car. and then get some black or white rims. that will make it great

I blame the show car bay crowd. It's an engine bay, color is fucking irrelevant because hoods are only open on show cars. Mine is oem shit gloss black with krylon bbq paint touch up.

+1 for oem color, though the gold is neat to look at, the only one i truly liked was a bmw i saw in a magazine once and that looked straight 24k :p :p
here it is, the bay isn't gold, the engine pieces are :p

X2 ^^ if you want something different colored, buy or paint your wheels at least you can change the wheels when you realized it's was a bad idea

My agreement goes with this gentleman.
The engine bay should match the exterior.

Before,,, oem black.. looks great right?? lolzzz

boms thats 2 completely different comparisons. your taking a completely bone stock sr dirty engine bay and adding a fresh sr with wire tuck and all the glits and glam. take that first pic and make the bay gold. then see the difference
ok ok.. i cleaned it up a little bit. lol but it is the same car.. a little work time and money.. anything can look decent.

You can't really judge those photos. Stock sr swap with wires everywhere, to painted, wire tuck, fuse box removed, oil filter relocation, ext. it's a huge difference going from janky stock to everything redone.

Our shop has done a gold engine bay even though we mainly bust out black cars with green interiors. Check it out. It most certainly does not look tacky.

It's not that it looks tacky, it just doesn't look good. I'm not sure where the idea of painting the engine bay a wildly different color than the exterior came from, but it never looks better than if it was just painted body color. I'm all for showing off the engine, but why on earth would you want to show off the sheet metal in the engine bay? But hey, as I've stated before, I'm old. Maybe I'm just not a cool enough kid to understand.

I'm not sure where the idea of painting the engine bay a wildly different color than the exterior came from,
It came from California. Along with Hellaflush, roof racks, sticker bombing, pink wheels, etc. Then it spreads like an epidemic across the states among people with no taste who are highly vulnerable to terrible trends, until kids in Florida start doing it three years later, which causes it to die out eventually. :)

Hell yeah! Cali starts everything
Then it gets to the wrong side of the country and kills it all

So u should be thankful for Florida ending all the tacky ricey trends that Cali starts :-P

Fuck the engine bay, don't put aftermarket aero on your car!!! It looks amazing with the oem stuff and widebody! Just get a GTR grill, get some aero mirrors, and lower the rear a little bit more.

I just answered the OP's question. He wanted to know b/t the two. I too would personally paint the bay to match the exterior, but with the options he presented, I thought the gold would look best. I did not color match when I swapped my SR. I painted the bay satin black and the exterior is white. However, I have a pignose S13 and the ivory white paint that Nissan used has been long gone for a long time. When I have the car stripped and repainted, I intend to colormatch the bay.

Wait, I may be mistaking, but, in the pic you posted on the last page, did you not fill in holes and smooth parts of the bay out? To make it look good and show your work ethics?

Yeah, but I didn't paint it some crazy color to make it stand out... I painted it body color to flow with the rest of the car.

I see what your saying, but as always, different strokes for different folks!
Don't get me wrong though. I don't really like crazy color bays either. The engine has to look nice though.
Well i can agree that cali starts most things.. Thats where 90% of the queers came from..
I like to be different, so i choose a gold bay. Also match my rums.
Im sure it would of looked just as good, Lexus midnight blue(body color)
but.. stated before,, different strokes for different folks
Its your car, do whatever you want.
