Alright guys got a strange problem I can't figure out. Ever since I swapped my new motor I turn the key to start and nothing happens for a few seconds then it fires up. The car runs fine, no bogging, no smoke, and no other issues. I didn't think much of it till last night. I start the car and nothing happens, I turned every thing off try again and nothing. Battery had juice everything turns on, but nothing happens. Push started the car and drove home and this morning same thing. I searched the forums and replaced the starter relay thinking this was it and still nothing. Then I replaced the starter with a spare and it starts now. But the same issue, turn the key and nothing happens for a few seconds then it fires up. What am I missing?? I've searched and can't find anything like what's happening here.

Info on the car:

Blacktop S13 Sr
New WS engine and lower harness
New Battery charging fine
New starter relay
No Turbo Timer
OEM Sr Starter

Thanks in advance.

I know when that little clip that goes to the starter even gets a little loose it'll do what your describing. (I have new WS harnesses also).

Maybe check that out?

I'll check that clip again, but when I was putting it all back together i reconnected it a few times just to make sure it was seating correctly.

My battery is run to the trunk with a new wire, so i dont think that is the issue. I will check the wire and see if its frayed or cut anywhere though.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Anyone else?

What gauge are you using for battery relocation?!?

How much ground do you have from the battery neg and engine?

2 gauge wire for the battery relocation. Engine is grounded from the IM using the old negative battery wire to the strut tower. Battery is grounded in the trunk with( Im guessing) gauge to a pre-existing bolt hole in the trunk i sanded down to metal to get a good connection.

BTW I have stock sound in the car w/ a shitty 35A headunit that is hardwired in. Not looking to get any sound back either, if i do i will be replacing the power wire with a 0 gauge.

Ignition switch or harness

Didnt think of the switch, might have to swap that out this weekend. Took at look at a write up and replacing that doesnt seem that involved just a few screws and a plug.

Thanks,

EDIT: Sorry should have edited my previous post, and added this.

Same problem here. I was told even possibly the weather if its cold where you live, which batteries struggle more with. With my brand new ignition switch it still does it. For example: in the morning early for class it wont even start at all sometimes, then in the afternoon once i get back from class it fires up. Just what I have been told correct me if I am wrong though.
