hows it goin guys, i have a 1972 datsun 510 that ive swapped a ka24e in. it

fires up solid but sounds horribly out of time and wont idle for the life of it.

problem is, i have the cam gear notch at 12:00 and the dimple at 3:00 on

the silver link. the oil pump is clocked correctly and dist. facing spark plug #1. all

at 0 degrees at tdc. im 100% positive that its set correctly cuz ive done it 10

times in the last 8 hours.,,, new cap ,rotor, spark plugs. buying new wires

today but dont think thats it. had removed all of the egr system. but only

code in throwing is intake air temp sensor, which my harness doesnt have

the wiring for (harness out of diff car) any chance that cause it to run like its

out of time? oh, and itll stay on on its own for about 5 secs when the

distributor is moved all the way right. any help would be appreciated, thanks

in advance!

Can it run long enough to warm up? I swapped a 240 ka into a truck, stripped it down to basics, and had the same issues as you while cold. What # ecu are you running?

No it can't. I have to stay on the throttle to keep it on. My mini tach says 2k rpm. And im not sure what # ecu. Although I know its a 5 speed one ( will post when I get to the car)

reset te timing AGAIN.. still no luck, but during revving to keep it on the tone smoothed out for 5 seconds and sounding like i think it supposed to!. but when i let the throttle go to see if itll idle it shut off and i can get it to do it again. after 30 seconds of running my headers are GLOWING RED!?!? =( WTF cant be good! any ideas? suggestions? does an automatic t.p.s. matter on a 5 speed car?

I have the book for this motor I am currently rebuilding one myself. I originally thought mine through the timing. So I tore out the oil pan and the valve cover. Check to the timing by lining up the hole in the camshaft gear lining them up at the 3:00 mark. After discovering that pistons one and four are top dead center determined that the timing is correct. I have discovered that my problem lies somewhere in between the ignition coil and the plugs. I have not checked the fuel injectors of the fuel rail yet but I have excellent pressure at the top side of my fuel filter. There are about 70 sensors modules and relays on this car. There are three sensors on the motor that will cause this motor to not start known as fails sensors. I am trying to decide if it is worth the money to rebuild the engine, or if I should junk it all and find something worth rebuilding. I know that some of the relays can become quite expensive. I have not read the entire manual, but I have seen somewhere in the Manual where you can test some of the sensors. For instance I know you can take to coil pack to advanced automotive and they will test it for free. The menu lawsuits tells you not to test things like fuel injectors,02 sensors. I know that in engine needs four things to run. Compression, exhaust, gas, and spark. If you have these four things and a mechanically sound engine than your problem becomes an electrical system problem. That means it can be anything as simple as an O2 sensor. You can e-mail me at [email protected] I will help you figure it out
