Hey guys, I am in need of help from my fellow zilvian's expertise about my smog check I had today. I received a citation couple of months ago for not having up to date tags and registration. The citation fee is due this coming Monday on the 29th and its $279.00, but the officer told me that it can be a fix it ticket and dropped down to $25 or so. First I need to smog my 240 first before going to go pay my registration fees at the DMV. I KNOW WHAT A PROCASINATOR, BUT ARENT WE ALL AT TIMES ESPECIALLY DURING FINALS WEEK.

I know most of you guys will be saying go do some research, but I can't because I am preparing myself for my final next week which is really important because if I pass with a B or better I will be a certified EKG monitor Tech. Please, any help will be geart.

So, the car is a 91' Nissan 240sx with original ka motor. The cat is only two years old and I have not changed out the EGR VALVE yet and I hope I don't have to because last year when I checked my egr valve it was still working properly. I have not done a tune up yet and I might. Today at the smog shop I passed everything except the NoX at 15mph, but I did pass it at 25mph. What can I do to make it pass so I can take care of this situation of mine before next week. Oh and the car has been sitting around for a month or two. Lol

You failed Nox @15mph only not @ 25mph. Wich leads me to believe you have carbon buildup in egr recirculating tube. Clean it out .Buy an EGR , old one is probably going bad and has carbon build up and probably doesnt open fast enough.Lastly check all vacuum hoses to EGR, EGR solenoid , and EGR vacuum amplifyer. ( just to be safe). Do a functional test , turn engine on apply vacuum slowly to egr , engine should begin to stumble and want to turn off while @ idle. If this happens Your EGR is opening properly. Another thing you can do is fill up with premium Higher Octane gas.Hiegher Octane gas helps prevent pinging by having more octane thus lowering the production of NOX. Start with cleaning EGR pipe first.

yup, 91 0ctane helps. if the car has been sitting for a while, you might have to drain the tank and fill up with new 91 octane. if only a couple of gallons are in the tank, just fill it all the way with 91 octane. also check your ignition timing. you are allowed to go + or - 2 degrees over stock timing. retard it to the lowest allowed, that and 91 0ctane will lower your combustion temps down. good luck

Alright guys I just tested my egr valve and it did stumble the motor. I did not use a vacuum device instead I just took the end of one of the hose and applied some vacuum to. So I guess my egr valve I working properly..so I will go get my smog done tomorrow morning and I will let ya know..oh and I did add some fuel additives..so hopefully everything goes smoothly.
