View Full Version : So the Nissan Silvia was built in Taiwan and sold as the AREX Elite 951?

So I recently read that the S15 was also manufactured (as was the S14) in Taiwan under a local Nissan manufacturing partner (Yulon)
the info is on wikipedia and also other places on the net
I'm wondering is it true? does anyone know?
the S14/S15 seem like low volume cars and I have NEVER seen a S14/S15 until the drift scene kicked in and a few started making their way over.
in Taiwan there are no RHD cars allowed to be registered (unless pre 1946)
so my question is
a: is it true the S15 were manufactured in Taiwan and sold as the AREX Elite 951?
b: if true, then it would mean there would be LHD S15s (RHD is illegal to register in taiwan so if they did sell the car it must have been LHD)
I grew up in Taiwan and was familiar with the scene and didnt really see many S13/S14 chassis cars unless they were imported from the US. So if this is all true it would be news for me.

List of Nissan vehicles Yulon Motors has built under license - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nissan_vehicles_Yulon_Motors_has_built_und er_license)
the info is there, can't find any sources for it though. It also says the S12 and S13 were built under license in Taiwan.
It makes no sense to me because they don't sell those cars in Taiwan, if they did they would have had to have been LHD (which brings up cool possibilities of LHD S15s)
As a manufacturing decision it wouldn't make sense, if the cars are relatively low volume sports cars and not even sold in the country, why would they make them there as well as make them in Japan? The A32-33 Cefiro, Sentras, Bluebirds, and trucks all make sense because they are sold in Taiwan and also high volume vehicles marketed around Asia
I would understand if components were made in Taiwan, just not the entire car.
I just find it interesting, I'm sure someone on zilvia has the knowledge of all things Nissan

They made LHD Silvias, we got a couple guys in here in Europe and Philippines that has LHD Silvias (both S13 and S14). Not sure on the S15, I know there are converted LHD S15s that were converted in Taiwan, then shipped to UAE.

The philippines have their cars shipped from japan, and converted to lhd cause of the standards there.
