So my motor is leaking in the rear and dripping from in between where the trans meets the upper pan. I thought it was the rear main when I pulled it the first time but it wasn't so i figured the pan, took it off, re-gasketed it and thought it was good. Well it was leaking again after I got it back running and now the motors back out and i can't find the leak. There was oil at the top of the rear seal plate, on the oil galley and freeze plugs above that, theres oil on the back of the flywheel where it bolts to the crank. It seems like its coming from the head or something. The VC gasket does kind of seem to be leaking from the little half moon things but I dont think it would leak this much and I figure it would run around the trans. Any ideas?

replace the valve cover gasket and use a good brand of silicone. spread the silicone around the half moon plugs.

You'd be surprised how much oil can leak from a bad sealing VC. Before you put new silicone gasket down clean the area thoroughly. Use acetone or a degreaser of some type to wipe down the area you're sealing.

I had the same problem and it was my arp mains not letting the pan seat all the way. I dont know if you have arp's but thats my experience.

It's oil, after it started again I thought the trans seal but it's not. I have arp mains but the two that hit the oil pan are modified cause I already cracked one pan when I first put them in. I guess there could be a 3rd hitting the pan? Never heard of anyone complaining about a 3rd though. I can see the rtv sealed all the way around the back of the pan so I don't think it's leaking from there, maybe the corners where you can't see. But the fact that oil is on the top of the rear cover and the oil gallery and freeze plug above it make me feel like it wouldn't be the pan
