Hi.
I'm glad I found this Message Forum.
I'm interested in purchasing a 91+ 240SX, stick.
My fiance is saying let's get a 240SX Connvertible but they only come auto, right??
What should I look out for??
How is the convertible??
On the board and reading some post, KA = 91+ and SR = 95+??
Thanks!!!!!!

As for your question on vert's only coming auto, I'm not sure but I believe yuor right. The only person I now of on the board with a vert sold it so it might be hard to find opinions on it. As for this question "On the board and reading some post, KA = 91+ and SR = 95+?? " KA is the engine code for the engine used in all 240SX's every sigle year has a KA engine, the SR is the engine code for the engine that the japanese and european markets get, the SR is tubocharged with over 200+ horse power, but we don't get it in the US. If you want to classify the cars by years it go's by the chassis code... s13=89'-94' the s14=95'-98' now see how simple that is <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

in the states, all of the 94's were only convertibles, n yes they were only automatics, n they're usually heavier, so if ur looking for performance i would go with either a 91-93 or 95-98.

I agree, if your goal is performance look at the 91-94 240's in standard. These models come with the more powerful DOHC (dual over head cam) and put out 155hp.
Plus the convertable adds weight to the car, not to mension decreases the strenght of the chassis. I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I have seen 94 240sx in coupes and fastbacks in Canada.
Besides, those 91-94 fastbacks are so sexy.

I've heard that the conv. have a noticebly more flexible chassis. Just what I've heard though.

You are correct gold240se...........
Thats why they weigh more, to keep them stable.
not having a roof creates chassie flex..................but a ladder bar would take care of the flex.

Wow, your smart. Hey, why don't we all read each others inputs the the threat and pass it off as our own.
So my Grandpa was right all these years, this generation is the most impatient and lazy group of people ever.

Yeah, I've always thought our generation was particularly lazy, and very sarcastic. Hey, did you know conv chassis' flex more? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Maybe we should add
[email protected]$$ to the list behind sarcastic.
me sarcastic? as if, *raises nose into the air* lets add snobby...... and ummmm dont get a convertible....... bad.

IMHO, the 240 convertible is not the sexiest 'vert out there. If you want a drop top, get a miata or a new MR2-Spyder. The 240 wasn't designed as a 'vert like those two cars were, so chassis flex is amplified (as was said before...several times). There is also added weight that hinders both straightline accelleration and handling performance.
Is this car going to be your car, your fiance's car, or both of y'all's car? If it's just going to be yours, the S13 is a tad more performance oriented with a slightly stiffer suspension and a little lighter in weight. Being the older model, it's also generally alot cheaper. The S14 puts comfort a little higher on the priority list than the S13 did...so you would hear less complaining if she will be riding in/driving it much. Many girls I've spoken to also think the S14 is more aesthetically pleasing than the S13...so if she's a "I like it because it's pretty" girl, the S14 may be the best choice for you both. However, both cars are great...enjoy whatever you get.

let me point out that the best years were not 91-94 but the 95 was the fastest and best looking 240sx ever made. sorry konkman you are wrong, the 95 s14 is way sexier than the s13.

You're all wrong. The '97 is the sexiest of them all. I actually really like the front of my '91, so I think it's pretty sweet, but... the '97. Come on!

How do you figure that? Same motor and transmission; and neglible weight difference, if not favoring the S13.
And the S13 is way sexier than the '95-'96 S14....however the '97+ are just #### fine.

Yeah, that's why all you jack-holes want our seats, our wheels, our stereos, our seatbelts. You people with your heavy glass-backs and your flexi chassis! Okay, here's a bone to the s13 crowd - the liftback looks sexy when you paint the roof section black...
Oh, and the 97 - with that funny looking front end? The more you look at them, the odder they look... and OBDII!?! HAH!
Of course, I might be biased? I DO drive a dead-sexy 1995

Sorry I'm a few months behind in responding to this one. Yes, that owner would be me. =) And, yes, I did sell it.
So, SHR XTC, if you're still out there, now I may respond like I should've in November. Try to stray away from the convertible. But not because it's less attractive than a Miata or an MR2, because it isn't. That car was beautiful, period. Which reminds me - chicks really loved it.
Driving it however, is not as much fun as looking at it. I suppose if you've never owned a 240 at all, you wouldn't realize what you were missing, but I came to mine after a '91 SE Coupe, so I could tell. The chassis flex in unacceptably bad. Even my friend's Mustang - notorious for riding as if the frame were made of jello - seemed smoother. The weight adds hideous seconds (not just fractions of them) to your 0-60 time. And, as you asked, it was, in fact, only offered in automatic.
Opinions are opinions, and what I think is just that - what I think. But I mean, I really couldn't stand my 'vert, and I sold it pretty quickly. Actually, not only did I sell it, but I bitched about it so much before doing so that most people on the board a few months ago are probably able to remember it. So, my advice to you is to decide which you want more: a 240 or a drop-top. Don't get both.
( ... I just hope I'm not too late ... )

You all just need to be honest with yourselves... the 1997-1998 240SX is by far the best looking 240. And I'm not just saying that because it's what I'm "stuck" with... I just bought the #### thing because I was in love with the car!!!
