Is there any difference between 95/96-97/98 stock tension rods besides left and right?

How do you know which is left and which is right?

The reason why im asking is because my friend let me barrow his 97-98 tension rods and i have a 96. I also replaced the control arm and his tension rods wont line up right and the bolts wont go through the LCA holes. Its almost in the whole but I dont want to force it to go in. Anyone have any suggestions?

all s14 tension rods are the same except the aero version has flaps to direct air to the brakes. to make it fit just pull the control arm to line it up to the tension rod.

Tried that already...how hard do you to pull it? Maybe I just have to work at it more?

all the S14 rods are the same R/L, 95-98. Some of the aftermarket ones have a bend in them that make them L/R. but the stock ones should fit. also note that the s14 rods are longer than the s13's.

I would say that your sway bar is giving you a hard time. it's beat to swap both rods at the same time with the whole front end(both wheels) jacked up. bolt the rod to the LCA. should fit into the holes just fine or you might have a bent LCA. after you have them tourqed down on the LCA shove it into the cradle and slide the bolt thru.

its easyer to bolt the LCA first then work it into the front mount. If the bolts totaly don't fit. check the rod on both sides. if it fits on one side and not the other then you LCA is bent. if it doesn't fit ether than it's a bent rod. Prolly why you got it.

I actaully just installed the LCA and tension rod off a 97 on my 96. Exact same. I had such a problem trying to get them to line up. WHat u gotta do is bolt in the LCA to chassis and knuckle. then bolt on the t/c rod to the lca. Then take a jack and jack up duner the lca, the t/c rod should line up to the hole after you jack it up a litlle. That is a trick that i used.

....hhaah whats funny is i spent like 2 hours wondering why my lca and tension rod would not fit. Yeah, it was def. a S13 one. I was pissed cause that is what the junkyard delivered to me. So i went and picked one off a 97 in a junkyard. Oh well. Works now. All my bushings are shot like non-other. I have PDM ones waiting to get put in.....sorry for going OT. Im really bored.

I've gone thru the Stock ones, Nismo, and the Whitelines are starting to tear. The nismo ones are shite may as well get stock ones. Whitelines are verry good lube them up before you install them. they lasted a long time but I think it's time for some pilo balls.

my previous post was the most easy way to do it. still got to be a gorilla to get it back in line.

My tension rods are fine. Got them off of my friends b/c he got the cusco's. LCA is fine b/c I just picked up one at the junkyard and theres no damage to that side.


S1LVIA: I have the EXACT situation you had...Ill try your method. The way I did it was bolted up the LCA and connected the tension rod in the front first and THEN tried to line it up with the holes in the LCA. Well see by tonight.

Yup...my first time...too bad my car wasnt drivable, thats why i needed that tension rod...Ill show you the control arm next time. Youll see how bad it is to get my stock one off...
