I know my engine bay is tight. But in my neverending search for a decent air intake ive come to realize something. The tubing, albeit shinier and bigger still runs the same path as the factory unit. Over top of the rad. This heats things up no? Then why is it called a cold air intake???! Not that it matters, im not expecting any power gains at all, but its the start of my quest to make my car sound like its got some kind of personality. (its bone stock cept some bigger exhaust plumbing) Read: stock 240SX's sound boring.

what im wondering is whether there is some other aftermarket intake system that sticks the filter elsewhere or runs the plumbing somewhere else?

anyone have any idea?

Some people make short intakes that put the filter in the right fender. You'll have to relocate the battery to do this. Keep in mind though, even with a long, crossover style intake, that air doesn't stay in there long enough to get hot.

Here's a pic of a shortie:

Hey man,I've been talking alot to my mechanic, and freinds about this very same thing, and I've all concluded that if you put insulation tape on the bottum of the intake right where it goes over your rad. then not only can you not see it,but the air won't heat up as much,if any and you still get your shiny looking intake....just an idea in wich I could very easily be wrong with ,but hey,as soon as my "CAI" gets here, thats what I'm doing

71 posts! WHOO! thats my lucky number!

EDIT:All the aftermarket intakes I have seen for the S13 have not in fact been called cold air intakes, the AEM unit is called Short Ram,and the Injen is called performance intake, you have to get the cold air extension(injen) for it to be a true CAI

I was toying with the idea of that headlight scoop idea, or maybe rigging something to put the filter in where the old resonator box was in the wheelwelll. Maybe even a small fan to take air from that area and blow it onto the filter
