alt. getting batt. voltage (w/ no key)

i dont think i should be getting battery voltage at the alternator (white wire 10mm not) with no key at all. but i am

im using my dmm and when i have it connected and i pull the alt 75a relay the dmm voltage goed to 0.00

let me remind you the key is not in the ignition at this time.
anything?

The battery is directly hooked to the alternator, with the fuse between the two points...
