The other day my power steering belt broke. I was driving and it started making a high pitch squeel(sp) noise, started smoking, I pulled over to check and my power steering belt looked like it melted on the power steering pulley.
So my first ? is. I can't spin the power steering pulling when the car is off, does that mean it's frozer up and I need to replace my powersteering? Or is it not supposed to be able to be spun and If I put the new belt on will that drive it.
Second, putting the new belt on I can't figure out which bolt to loosen to create the slack to put the new belt on. My Chilton book is not very clear or I'm not understanding it correctly.
So, do I need a new power steering pump or just replace the belt. Sorry in advance for my ignorence on this subject.
