Hi Everybody,

Whenever I drive for a while, all of a sudden my car will not move too well and I have to hit the gas and rev it really high in order to move between gears.

My 1st gear will barely go 5MPH and be at like 5RPM, 2nd gear will barely go like 10MPH at 5RPM and etc. I have to play with the throttle at 5th gear to barely get me up to traffic speed without revving too high.

It does not happen when I am cruising at the freeway for a long time. It will happen when I drive for like an hour straight, in & out of traffic, shifting up & down.

Any clue?

Here is what I got: Stock 89 Fastback with 115k miles. It might have the original clutch that came with the car, the person I bought it from did not know if the owner before him changed it or not. So this may be it, but in case it is not and if someone knows the answer please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

So if im not mistaken, you're saying that in 1st gear @ 5000 rpm you are going only 5MPH!!! You are DEFINITELY burning clutch. It's probably toast. How did you even get it on the freeway?

Yeah this is what happens, but it does not happen all the time. Only during long periods of driving where I shift around. This does not happen on the freeway where I am pretty much cruising and not shifting much.

I am able to drive for like one full hour on the street before this happens, so I have been taking short trips lately until after Finals week where I can take it to be checked.

So is it a clutch prob, or something that happens when the clutch warms up?

Well your clutch disc would be more prone to slip if it's getting hot.
