well i have a 95 base model 240sx with no mods but the bump timing (distrubitor).
ok...I had sluggish starting problems and when my car did start, I would let it idle. While it was idling; i turned my high beem on then i would turn the lights on and the rev's would fall a bit and the radio would cut off and turn back on and the revs would return to normal.
Well I changed the starter friday (12/5/03).....and one time I was at a parking lot and I tried starting the car, IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL......WORST TO WORST.. AFTER NOT STARTING..... I WOULD HEAR THER STARTER SPINNING SOUNDING LIKE A WHINNING NOISE. That would happen even when the key is not in the ignition, so I quickly disconnected the battery cable. I tried putting the cable back on and as the cable touched teh terminal; it would SPARK (melt some of the terminal) AND THE STARTER WOULD START TO SPIN AGAIN!!
well it eventually ran my battery down so I had a jump, and it did not happen again but the starting was still sluggish.
Now, earlier today (sunday), I changed the alternator and started the car and it was a good start but when I let it idle and turned my high beem on and then my lights, the radio would cut off and back on and my rev's would also fall and return. So I was thinking that I have to let the alternator break in or let it charge the battery.
well after 20 minutes of letting the car idle, I turned it off and tried starting it, AND IT WOULDN'T START, THE STARTER WOULD JUST SPIN AND SPIN... SO I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY cable and reattached it and sparks would be flying and melting my terminal....and the starter would keep spinnning with the key's out the igniton....
alternator and starter was bought from autozone...
so can anybody help this guy with these starting problems? Could it be the cheap parts from autozone?? or could it be a short in the wire from the starter to the battery? what is it??
any info would be fully appreciated.
thanks
