View Full Version : CAR AUDIO: problems with my components/amp
I've got jl vr components up front, infinti kappa 6.5 2 ways in back, and a kicker 4x25 amp. When i first installed everything it sounded pretty good. However, i'm running into a few problems.
ground loop like crazy. But thats not even whats bothering me the most, but i think this may be the cause of the problem.
The real problem is. The tweeters are 2 harsh and loud. And when they play high voice notes. (like punk rock high notes) it blurrs. Its hardto explain, but it doesn't sound right at all.
My question is. If i get a ground loop illiminator will it fix this other problem? or does my gound loop completely indipendent.
All comments are welcome. Thanks!
has anyone even had luck with ground loop eliminators?

well.. i assume that by ground loops.. mean you have engine noise.. like alternator whine and spark plug noise...
do process of elimination:
first of all.. are all the equipment new and not defected?
second.. is installation...how a system sounds depends heavily on the quality of the installation...
try regrounding the amp with at a better/thicker contact point of the car...
unplug the RCA and see if the noise is still there?
did where did you run the power wires?
are they close the the crossovers on the components?
as for the tweeter being a little bright...turn down the treble on the stereo.. you said in the beginning it sounded good.. then it became harsh.... maybe you got tired of the highs?
maybe it could be the amp thats make it sound like that..
i have been installing autosound.. and security for 7 years..
just my input....
I've looked for better grounding locations on my s14 but havn't found any that worked better. Right now its grounded behind the headlights. before that i had it on the bottom of the trunk. Where do u suggest i ground it 2? I ran the rca's and power down different sides, so i don' think that is the issue. I don't have access to my car right now, so when i do i'll get back to the thread or pm you, thanks so much for ur input.

well.. i have an s14 also.. i ran my RCA wires down the middle of my car.. take care when running around the shifter and e-brake lines... i used Monster Cable i401xln four channel three meters..
my amp is a JL 450/4. it powers the front speakers only. this is only a temporary setup... but i made sure i have good high quality cables and a good amp to begin my system. i got my ground from a factory bolt near the base of the trunk and rear seats... i used a wire brush to take away paint from the metal and used the bolt there...
try out another amp if you can to see if the amp you have is defective...or a little flawed.
i always recommend spending more on high quality wires. easier to change amp than to rip out all the wires and rerunning them...
pm me if you still need help on it.. or email

thanks
