View Full Version : Stock lug studs hitting the back of wheel when using PBM 15mm spacer?

I bought a set of the new PBM adjustable spacers, (only to use with my front wheels the rears are fine),last week and installed them with my XXR 006's which are 17x9 front with a slightly stretched tire 225/40 Hankook V12's. The PBM spacers are very nice quality btw. The problem I am having is that the stock lug studs are protruding through the spacer and hitting the back of the wheel causing the wheel to not sit flush on the PBM spacer. I am planning on getting new wheels but not anytime soon. I called PBM and Nate said "Most aftermarket wheels have spacing on the back to accomodate this problem". Fuck you XXR!!! Pieces of shit!!! I only have them because when I bought it a friend hooked me up with them for next to nothin with tires on them! My solutions that I have for combating this is 1) Try to find a shorter stud with the same thread and knurl size. 2) Shave them down to fit. 3) Use my old Ichiba 25mm spacers which are way overkill for stock fenders and rub like crazy. 4) And of course wait to get new wheels before using the PBM spacers. I also have a full Originlab Streamline kit with 20mm fenders but will not be installing any of it until this summer. So please dont suggest using wide fenders with the 25mm Ichiba spacers I already have.
Any ideas or suggestions other than the obvious number 4 are greatly appreciated!

This is a common problem for some wheels, my BBS are flat disks where the spacer sits so I had this too. Just put the spacers on, bolt them down, mark wheel stud where they will sit flush, take everything off and grind the excess stud off.

So I measured everything out and Irax came over and helped me cut the studs. All you need is a dremel and some cutting discs a sharpie and some painter or masking tape. This should work for anyone that runs into the same thing using PBM spacers. Their stud nut sits down into the hole for the OEM studs. Not sure if this is so for other companies such as Ichiba, but I would go with PBM spacers anyway over anything else. I have had Ichiba and Touge Factory and the PBM spacers are far superior. Hope this thread helps anyone else running into this!

This is common it happens on anything shorter than 20-25mm bolt on spacer. Like you said some time + a dremel will take care of the issue. PBM has nothing to do with it.

This problem happens with every spacer under 25mm i have seen. Wheels with multi fitments cant be used with bolton spacers < 25mm.

Highly unlikely...out of the three brands I have used the PBM are unquestionably the nicest and best made. Its not the spacer its the wheel design. Like matt and croustibat stated amt spacer less than 25mm is going to have this issue. Its the wheel companies that need to get on board with this!
