i have been running my redtop sr20det at what i thought was stock boost (7psi) until i was trolling the internet and came across the facts that sr's run at a stock 11psi.
instantly i read on found out i had the boost control solenoid and put it in (i figure its correct i checked out the vacuum lines on heavy metal)
but took if for a test drive and firsts gear was good 11psi then it stopped going up. second gear it hit 13psi then went down which in not to worried about. but third gear i hit 15psi and it slowly went down to 11psi. even weirder was fourth gear when it hit 15psi and only went down to 13psi. then being stupid i shifted up and fifth gear it hit 16/17psi.
im not super good with turbo stuff but i am pretty sure this shouldn't happen.
anyone have any ideas?

i ran my stock SR at 20psi for years. i know everybody is gonna go bananas and bash me, but i put it on the dyno and it made 300rwhp with a 12:1 afr.

you'll be fine.

most would say anything over 13 pounds on a S13 T25 is pointless.

^nah, over 16-17psi, you're just blowing hot air and the turbo cant keep up. i prolly coulda made the same power at 17psi..

really now, no other supporting mods?

Ive got a healthy running srdubt and im running 10.5 psi right now. Im at high altitude though so im worried ill lean out.

Either way you wouldnt want to push it without a wideband so you can know your AFRs.

factory sr20dets use a factory 1:1 FPR. for every 1psi of boost, it raises fuel pressure by 1psi. besides, the o2 sensor can tell if it is running lean and demand more fuel.

i fully understand that and id love to also have 300whp but this sounds sketchy indeed. What altitude are you at. you have a dyno and af to prove its legit? can anyone else chime in here, ive always heard that you run out of injectors and maf as well as turbo way before this.

does it feel like the gauge is reading right? double check it with a working gauge

boost gauge works fine, taking out the boost solenoid the needle is always a solid.

Your setup is normal, as far a i can tell. Have you even driven a stock 180sx before or better yet a stock turbo car period? These engines and clips are marketed as hi performance engines, but the are just regular production engines, we just beat the crap out of them! So if you are driving normal and shifting normal, you will have less of a spike and minimal creep. And just remember that when you do get on it, you'll have that 15psi spike. Use it well!

yes, and yes.
what would cause it to be spiking? could it be a leak in the lines? or?
like i said im not the best with turbos/turbo set ups. i would like to learn

verying degrees of load on the engine causes this, i don't know if you have a boost leak. Just that the operating description is normal. There are ways to minimize the effects. Go external, port the flapper hole, or drive like a sane person.
