View Full Version : At the point of getting a tune??
Just curious at what point you guys would look into a tune. My build consist of:
91 S13 Hatch
Fully Rebuilt KA24DE
Supertech Forged Pistons 10.5:1
Stock Rods
Clevite Bearings
ARP Bolts
EGR Deleted
Walbro 255
1:1 Rising rate FPR
About to add a N60 MAF and i think this will need the AF tune. But is it pointless to do this until i go turbo?

you're gonna boost with 10.5:1 compression pistons?!?
Yeah, thats stock comp right? I read where its safe for about 300hp on stock internals so i went with it.

i dont believe that is the stock compression ratio..
Well, thats some junk huh. Oh well the place i bought them said good for turbo. Supertech P4-N8900-N11 Forged 4032 Aluminum Pistons S14 KA24DE 89.0mm (http://www.frsport.com/Supertech-P4-N8900-N11-Forged-4032-Aluminum-Pistons-S14-KA24DE-89-0mm_p_15916.html)
Its getting boost lol.

lower compression allows you to run more boost safelly, higher compression will spool faster and make more power but will be more unstable

yes you need a tune. You changed the factory setup so now everything is off. Youll be fine boosting 10:5:1 but be very careful with your ignition timing
Safc for now or is there a better option?
Im na now but will be boosted within a year.

Isnt the Haltechs mostly MAP setup and not MAF?

Not just unstable but likely to pop or blow up. I have always run nistune on my engines so that when I do a simple upgrade like injectors I don't have to pay a lot of money to simply re-tune. Any time you change or mod or upgrade from a stock setup you will want to tune the ecu so that you actually make use of that upgrade or mod.
