Okay so im replacing my transmission today and have almost everything off. driveshaft is off, wiring is unplugged, slave cylinder off, starter is off, tranny mount undone. Except 2 bolts that seem impossible to get to! The motor is in the car and i cant get the 2 bolts up top that connect the bellhousing to engine. Please any tips on how to get them off??? My day is at a STANDSTILL until i get these bolts off. The engine is an s13 sr20det in a s14. I have another transmission ready to go in but i cant get this one off...

ive searched and searched and havent seen anything in depth to this. please any suggestions appreciated.

Its these 2 bolts at the very top

drop the rear end of the tranny to it tilts and use a long extension to get them from far away. Or just beast it out with an open end wrench from above 1/4 turn at a time.

those are probably aftermarket bolts. good job on getting them out.

The best way to remove them is to remove the transmission cross-member, loosen up your motor-mounts. Using a block of wood tilt the engine by jacking up the front of the engine from the oil pan and by using a long extension with a universal and what ever size socket you need, reach in from the back of the tail shaft housing and you should be able to remove those two bolts no problem.

i guess being a mechanic in a shop has its advantages. i use a 17mm swivel socket a 1 1/5 foot - 2 ft extension and 1/2in impact gun. do it at home the same way w/ my matco battery powered one(best investment evar). if you have the extension and swivel socket or even a wobble extension and a regular socket that would work too is you have a good 1/2in breaker bar or ratchet.
also if you can get to it with a jack under the tranny do it cause you're gonna need to take some stress off of them or you'll never get them loose. you need a lil counter pressure or you're basically making them more tight w/o touching them
