Alright, at this point, my 240sx looks like I just grabbed it from the junkyard and threw on some rims.

I know some guys who will pull out all my dents, bondo what's necessary and primer it for me all for $100.

My dad used to do some bodywork so he and I are going to sand the biznitch down and using my friend's compressor and gun, I'm gonna primer it and then....

I want to paint it metallic flat black because:

1. I'm poor.
2. I want my car to look mean, not flashy.
3. It's different and kind of cool.

So my question is, how hard would it be for me to either number A.) Make my own blend of flat black with metal shavings. or number B.) Procure some mettalic flat black, and how much do you think the paint would be all together? And I might even drop a clear coat on it for finish

If you dont even know where to buy the paint or how much it costs, your not ready to start painting.

i dont think there is such a flat color
because the closest color is a dark gunmetal
the way that you want to go is still a base/clear system
but u have to put a flattening agent to the clear and add
the flakes in the clear

you want a flat color with metallic in it?:( so you like looking like you have barbie's glitter factory all over your car?:D honestly i've never seen flat/metallic combo, it would be interesting at least.

I know where you buy paint and what to do. I'm just saying, I don't think there is such a color out there. Hmm... so none of you have seen the SCC mini cooper with the metallic flat black paint?

I love the color too. BUT, i dunno if it would look that hot on an S13. The mini is much more curvacious so it suits it well, whereas the S13 is a little flatter. I dunno try it out. Don't let people influence your decision. If you think it will look good then go for it. Personally I think the color itself is hot, but I don't tink it will look AS good on a S13. Still should look great though.

the mini is more of a semi-gloss black, or satin black. I once painted my old S14 satin Black.

I've got a hatch, it's kind of curvy. I dunno if it doesn't work, then oh well right? I mean it'd cost me less than $100 to get that paint. SO if that doesn't work, I'll just resand, primer, and re-paint it... gunmetal :D

*edit* By the by, it's flat black, SCC painted that mini with a mettalic flat black. They added some weird thing in there that I'll have to look at again to really know what it is, but it made it darker than their project silvia flat black.

*edit #2* Found it:

"Meanwhile, metallic flat black it is. Simmons custom mixed our metallic black, finishing it off with a clearcoat doped liberally with dulling agent. Being a rare request, the exact amount of dulling agent was in question. Our finish ended up fairly semi-gloss; not exactly the R1 finish we were looking for, but menacing nonetheless. Parked next to our rattle-can black, it's several shades blacker, and the semi-gloss replaces the declarations of cuteness with semi-disgusted questions about our paint problems. Perfect. Anyone with an automotive soul, on the other hand, understands immediately"

awww... you guys are mean. And no, I'm not going for that super dull flat look that SCC is doing. I want something like the mini. Something not super glossy, but not ghetto. Something that catches your eye, but not make you shield your face in pain. I want it to look like my car is a black blurr whirring down the street. :D Or you know something to that effect.

I was also thinking of getting my car painted, I would like to do some more engine work, then possibly a Silvia front end on the coupe :o (I know its kind of done a lot now but it looks so good). And then I think I would do all my bodywork then get it painted. I guess I don't care if it looks good as long as it moves enough to get in that special direction :D . It's all about self satisfaction to me I don't give a hoot what other people think of my car, and the factory red isn't terrible, no rust which is nice! Well good luck with your paint job.

Atleast read they guys friggin posts, he does clearly NOT want the "silvia" flat rattle job look. He wants the look of the Mini. I don't really know why the hell they call it flat black, it really is more of a satin or whatever. But since you pretty much have the formula from SCC, why not just take those pics and that formula to a reputable paint mixer and have them mix it up for you? Easy enough.

Thank you... I'm starting to think NICO is nicer than this place :P

Well I think Satin black with a dull clearcoat is what I'm going to go with. Glossy shine isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for kick-ass mean with a touch of class. I want people to look at my car and see something that at first glance is just another glossy black bitch car and then when their reflection doesn't show up on the side of the car then get a little scared.
