is there anything wrong with taking out the thermostat and leaving it out?
can there be any other reasons why my coolant isnt flowing properly?
what could be done?
thanks for the help.

dont take out the thermostat. Swing by a auto place and see if they have a block checker. It should be a tube with dye stuff. If the dye turns green then you have a cracked block. The dye will turn green because exhaust is getting in the cooling system. Get it checked ASAP.

Taking out the thermostat is bad because without it the coolant mixture doesn't stay in the radiator long enough for it to be cooled. No flow is usually due to either a blockage, a faulty water pump or air in the system. I had this problem one time due to a crack in the top of my radiator. You can get that stuff drifter mentioned at Bennet or Napa.
If you still have the crappy factory radiator check the top carefully for leaks. If there isn't a leak then change the therm and rad cap, flush the system with radiator cleaner and refill. If its still not flowing then it's probably your water pump. They are about $30 after core charge. A metal top radiator for about $125 was one of the best mods I ever made on my 240.

It's good to give your radiator a good flush every once in a while. You can buy the Prestone Flush solution from any autoparts store and it takes almost no time at all. If you spend your time and do it right you may be able to solve your problem right there.
Good luck,
Matt
