whats up bros i designed some Fender Braces for my S14 and will be getting them made within the next week or so. so far all we have set up is a cardboard example which is mocked up to an S14. we'll work on an S13 next to see if it will be a universal brace or if we will need to redesign another set. but i will post up pictures as soon as we get the prototype set done and mounted on the car.

detailed information about the fender brace:
1/8th inch mounting plates
1 inch round tube
16 Gauge dimpled gusset reinforcement
Stainless Steel Button Allen Head bolts
all tig welded design
custom color upon request, otherwise they will be sent them out in a coat of flat black primer.
ESTIMATED price will around $200 for a pair give or take a few depending on shipping costs

here are pictures of some braces that were made for an AE86 Corolla just to give you an idea of how the welds look.

How do these affect the fitment of the fenders? Does it push them out at all? Possibly interested in S13 version.

stock fenders look like they will not have a problem. but just the same as any other after market fender brace, we expect there might be a clearance issue with the vented fender.

Anyone with a mig welder will just make them. Unless its a deal you might not sell many.

Look legit, idk about the price though. I could get some name brand shit for a lil more (+free ship, <3 FRSport)

Nagisa XNG0070 Gacchiri Fender Support Brace 240sx 1989-1994 (http://www.frsport.com/Nagisa-XNG0070-Gacchiri-Fender-Support-Brace-240sx-1989-1994_p_12950.html)

Make a few hundred sets and sell em for $75 a pop lol

Edit:

Does SPL still make s13 fender braces?

wtf does it being the beefiest brace ever have to do with anything? If it does matter, it should be that it will prolly hinder fitment - especially with those who have tucked wire harnesses.

The fender brace isn't taking a lot of force like, say, suspension pieces that need to be beefy. It's just bracing some minor flexing, most of which is up/down from firewall.

Stealth Custom Fab sells these for $150 plus shipping.

Your design may look cooler, but I doubt it is $50 more efficient.

Is Jonnie still around? Ive been trying to get a set off of him for a while now =/

And why would you want to custom paint a part that you will likely never see? lol

if you can get the price to 150 ill be down got get a set.

Not to muck up the thread but, OP's design definitely looks like it's worth the extra $50 - at least to me. The connection between the two bars just removes one more degree of freedom which makes me feel a little better about buying a brace that some may consider superficial.

Now if OP could get it into the $150-$175 range, he'd probably move a few more.

Is it just me or the fitment is a little low.. it looks like on LOW cars it could be a problem.

Notice how the stealth-lab and other brands don't go lower than that chassis harness.

It could just be the angle of the picture though...

The second picture is not a 240, it's an AE86.

I've always wondered if these braces even make a real difference, can someone speak from experience on this?

I had Nagisa bars on my s13. The shitty thing is, I put all my suspension stuff on at the same time, so I can't give any feedback on them.

sorry for the worthless post!

The problem I see with the OP's fender brace is the tubular steel basically means limited clearance between the brace and the fender. I have seen dented fenders from fender braces.

I actually have a line on a set of these and would like them because instead of staying on the outside of the inner fender rail they run down the inside.

They also look like I could bend them with my hands and totally disregard the fact that triangulation is the most efficient and best way to brace anything.

OP, your statement about the s13 and s14 braces possibly being universal... no, you'll have to make another set for the 13.

I have a pair of 13 braces I checked against a 14 with no luck. None of the mounting points match up, nor are they close enough to make them easily universal. But I suppose it's all in how much 'extra' material you have.

I've always wondered if these braces even make a real difference, can someone speak from experience on this?

The best example I can think of is a customer's miata.
before putting them on, you jack up the car behind the front wheel, the front wheel would be about 2" off the ground before the rear wheel came up.
After the braces were on, both wheels came up at the same time jacking in the same spot.

They reduce quite a bit of flex.

I never understood the benefits of fender bracing, but what ever makes you think you're gonna drift better I guess. :eek3d:

I've got SPL fender braces. I can't say that I noticed a huge difference. But when going over large bumps, like railroad crossings, I could tell that the chassis wasn't flexing quite as much, however, the difference was subtle.

SPL sold Nagisa ones
strut bar + fender braces + nismo powerbrace = good alternative to stitch welding
I'm happy with mine

They don't like they'd do much of anything personally, unless they are generic stock pictures. YOu need the triangulation aspect of it all to make it worthwhile to me.

My chassis has 80k on it (s14) and I could certainly feel a nice difference with these braces and then moreso with the solid upper strut bar from JonnieFraz...and I've had quite a few years of track days without them, and with a junky strut bar. I'm very critical of things like this, and I can easily say that it's a worthwhile mod, especially for some of the older S13 cars.

While there is no doubt stich welding works, it to me is something that is a 'waste' for a street car...it's just an extra step that I was not willing to make with my S14. Like you I went with bolt on stuff and have been super happy.

...in fact now that I think about it I have the Jonnie Fraz fender braces, strut brace, and Tension Rod brace...damn, so much for my JDM part points at the car show hehe :D

I agree, although the ricer in me likes the 'look' of a stitch welded front...:hide:

True true...someday on my 'track car' I'll do that...I thin we all know how flimsy Fox Body cars are :)
