is it common to get pull over in CA just because of the exhaust?

whats up i am just curious about this:

i am planning to get an SR'd or maybe KA 240sx but i am just wondering if its common to get pull over by cops just because of the noise/look of your exhaust and what about a swapped engine? what if you get pull over and they find that your engine doesnt belong to the actual car?

The thing its that i am just wondering since i want to get a 240sx in CA and use it as a DD.

8 months in this state with my s14, built SR, illegal tint, Apexi gt spec exhaust with resonator delete, triple gauge pod, etc etc, still nothing from the cops.

A bike cop passed me slowly on the highway, was looking at my hood (aftermarket, you can see shiny shit through the vents) shook his head, smiled and kept going.

Just don't drive like a Hondafag. If you see a cop, keep it below 2500rpms and accelerate slowly. You'll be fine.

My out of state plates may be why i dont get attention. I do test them. I accelerate moderatly hard, let the bov go off, they still don't do anything. I should probably stop pushing my luck.

Sr 3 inch straight pipe is loud depending on how u accelerate. but my Friend was pulled for exhaust and was sent to a locally ref inspection. just for exhaust modd u might be asked for a fix it ticket. but what if u cant take it do we pay the fine or just sell the car?

OP you can have a non stock exhaust and not get pulled over. The main thing is how loud it is. The second thing is, is it a huge shiny ass tip sticking out the back at an angle?

Oh and don't drive like you stole the thing. My KA car used to have a loud ass 3 inch pipe, I got tickets for the shit. In fact that was the only reason I would get pulled over.

Simple rules to follow with exhaust. High flow but quite. My buddy ran a RSR cat back on his car and had no problems. You can also always go with a dual tip muffler out the back to look stock.

I had a dual tipped Magnaflow on my RB car on the end of 3.5 inch ST May mandrel bent pipping. Never got looked at.

Its all that simple.

I've never been pulled over for exhaust. I rocked a Kakimoto N1 cat back exhaust for three years and never once got harassed. Now, I'm driving with a 2 1/4 straight pipe with a Apex'i Ws2 exhaust on my AE86 and still haven't had any BS from the cops. You can have modified cars in Cali but just drive like a normal person and you'll be fine.

a lot of cops in cali are into cars too and they know what to look for and what they are looking at. my friend with a stock looking s13 lowered on SE wheels got pulled over because the cop saw his intercooler as he passed by. his engine is an rb25 and now he can`t drive the car because he cannot ref it. my other friend registers his cars in Arizona, and it works for him. he just tells the cop he is visiting cali. or, you can get a special registration that says you drive your car less than 3,000 miles a year or something like that and you will get an exemption from emissions laws. i never looked into that, so i don`t know if it still exists. if you drive normal and your car is not riced out, you`ll likely not get pulled over. i drive an s13 with an ebay N1 style muffler with a resonator and i don`t get pulled over, unless i drive like an idiot(80+mph on freeway transitions). the officer did not ask me to pop the hood, but he gave me a ticket for going over 60mph on freeway transition that has a 50mph posted speed limit. that cost me $242 and 1 0r 2 pts. on my driving record.
