Hey guys, I've lived at Yokota Air Base, Japan for the past two years and now it's finally time for me to head back to California for college. I have more than enough room to place a full set of coilovers into my check-in luggage. I'm taking a Delta flight from Narita to San Francisco. Will I have any problems?

I don't think so, its not like vegetables or something so I don't think they'd say anything about it, I just remember they said something about bringing bananas to america was not allowed, that was in my case, but I don't think they'd give you a hassle

Understandable, bringing over Japanese bananas would probably start up a zombie virus epidemic. :ughug: :Ownedd:

The only problem that you may encounter is if they search your bag & they think it's a weapon of some kind. You being from the military & all haha

Bananas could well disappear within ten years thanks to two blights: black Sigatoka, a leaf fungus, and Panama disease, a soil fungus which attacks the roots of the plant.
You should have no problem bringing in coilovers.

Got some Trust Greddy Type-S Coilovers. I don't think they're sold over in the US. They were about 50000yen. That's about 600 dollars. Basically completely new aside from a torn rubber boot.

I'm also bringing back an Apexi air intake ($60), Cusco front and rear tower bars ($30 each, slight rust on rear, scratched up mounting plates), and Kouki 180SX Lights with RPS13 centerpiece ($270).
Here's the candidate for all these lovely stuff.

Is the cargo cabin pressurized? Shocks might leak in such a low pressure invironment.

I've flown with some weird metallic stuff in my carry on before, primarily competitive robotics parts, and have never been hassled. If someone from the TSA asks, just explain to them exactly what it is, and be able to supply documentation in extreme cases.

Better idea would be just ship the damn thing back stateside. Not like you dont have access to military shipping to CA. It'll probably be less than $50. You can use your weight for other shit that way considering you're only allowed 2 bags back.
Any more info on this? What about pressurized gas in the coilovers or compressed cylinders? TSA website says none of these are accepted in checked bags? should i run the risk?
any more info would be appreciated

yea if you tell them its a shock, and the checker is smart, then he'll get you. you could try n take it to the next level and say its oil filled instead of gas, and he might not know oil filled are pressurized to.

Bingo^
I Shipped an Engine through the Military Post Office In 70Lb increments when I left Oki
as well as coil overs.
WAY Easier, but be sure to use a sturdy box
