View Full Version : No coolant pressure and head gasket leak?

So I have had these problems with my car: when I start it cold, it misfires for a little and then is ok and idles fine and seems to run fine too. And at the track the other day I noticed my coolant was bubbling and that I had no pressure in my coolant hose. My overflow tank has oil particles in the sight gage, it looks like blow by but my coolant did not look like it had oil in it.

My original guess was the headgasket is failing (which wouldn't surprise me, it is a Cometic MLS) and it is dumping enough coolant into the combustion chamber to hurt start-up. I drove about 300 miles and my rad was still full, but the overflow tank, which i had filled halfway, was empty. So i don't think I am burning coolant but that it is evaporating.

I am replacing the radiator cap because I think it isn't tight anymore but what else could be getting coolant into the combustion chamber?

thanks

hey man, check the coolant lines hidden under the intake mani, mine went bad for no reason at all and started squirting coolant from where it couples together. i replaced them and its back to normal.

you can tell if its leaking by getting a flashlight in there with the car on, it will either have a steady drip and a trail where it leaks. or if its bad enough it will squirt under pressure.

I will check the lines, but as of right now I have no puddles and can't smell any coolant when idling or after I pushed it on the track. I honestly don't think I have enough pressure to squirt anything out. (That's what she said, I know)

No pressure in the system 90% of the time means bad radiator cap. As for oil in the res, sounds like headgasket. Unless your coolant was contaminated some how.
