Well first off I am new so bear with me... I have been looking around and seen that JDM motors are a no go to swap a 300zx's engine. I have been trying to look into 300zx more often because I want to buy one and most of them have a lot of miles so would like to try to do a swap ,but I have been reading that buying from ebay especially JDM engines are a no. And why is this?
Also what would be the best way of going to buy a 300zx? swapping or what do you guys think is best?
Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to ask?
Like deolio said, its the same engine.
It's most likely retarded expensive shipping that would make you not want to buy an engine over eBay.
And the last question makes no sense. The best way to go buy a Z? Did you mean something else?

oh alright thank you, that must be it just seen a lot of people saying it was the sellers that were iffy.
Well I mean buying a cheap one with lots of miles and just swapping the engine or buying a Z with low miles but it'll be more expensive of course. Guess that's all depends what I could find really and whats in my pocket.

swap wise, i would really say it depends on your budget and what your trying to accomplish with the car. if you want it to stay original but have low miles, just do a simple rebuild, but if you want to make it fast...thats a whole other story. if you want it fast, then you have to figure out if your even going to stay with the VG30 or not. hah lots of questions that you need to figure out first. BUUUUTTT befor any of that, you should probably deal with getting the car first.

did a little research and these are wat i found
JDM engines were limited to 280ps (~276hp) by Japanese self-imposed corporate regulations.JDM version should be putting out the same amount of hp as the USDM one if not a bit more. They just CLAIMED it as 280ps in Japan because of the Gentleman's Agreement. The JDM VG30DETT is rated it 280bhp (same as 96 USDM VG30DETT) whereas the USDM VG30DETT was rated at 300bhp.

haha just heard it before sited from this link:
JDM Engine Experiences - NOOBS READ : 300ZX (Z32) General (http://forums.nicoclub.com/jdm-engine-experiences-noobs-read-t530009.html)
But now I know they are only bad because they are the sellers that are bad that don't take care of the engine and just rip people off.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed but i really do hope you're handy with your hands. This car mechanically (especially the TT model) has a steep learning curve when working on it. This is ranked up there with one of the worst cars to ever have to work on. Goodluck either way.

I'll play nice.
The reason the swap is not popular is because it's impractical. I suspect you are talking about dropping a Turbo into a NonTurbo car. By the end of everything your better off just buying a TT. If you already have a TT that needs rebuild... its better to rebuild. As you'll then have a fresh engine, possibly forged internals (if you choose) and a chance to upgrade your worn, undersized turbos.

If you plan on building the motor and its exactly what you have now then it would be a waste of time buying another, unless its your daily and you don't want any down time.
If you are looking to do a 300zxTT then it would be less expensive to start with a TT if possible. If its not your daily driven car then spend the money to build the long block because parts and machine cost money and you could spend that money you would have spent on a new motor to by bolt on parts and proper tuning.
It all boils down to personal goals so don't expect another persons setup to be what you want. Set your goal, follow through and make it your own. The coined term, "You have to PAY to PLAY!" will rear its ugly head time and time again so make sure you are financially prepared to endure the Jorney, Good Luck!

Okay thank you very much!
Yeah I am 18 and this would be my first really sports car. So I was thinking just getting a manual N/A since I'm not yet experienced with a turbo at all and probably would cause me problems financially since I understand there is a lot of maintenance involved.
I was thinking about buying a shell and motor and have that installed ,but it really depends what I can find.
Would buying a 300zx for pretty cheap around $3500 or $4000 with high miles ,and just getting the transmission and motor rebuilt a good idea? Just trying to plan everything around, thanks again.

No. Stupid idea.
Do you own a car already? Take any project plan and add 70% for an accurate cost.
You best bet is to just find a clean, well taken care of car for your price range. Mileage isn't important if work has been done to it.
At 18, and if your looking at a $10,000 project, I would suggest you buy a 350Z. You would get a nice one for ~$12,000. Finance that and your looking at $200-$300 a month.
Much better plan to have a clean, fairly new bad ass car that needs no work, than constantly trying to scrap up $2-500 to finish some busted ass project.

im going to have to disagree with you. if he wanted a 350z, the thread would be about a 350z...but he wants a 300zx. i do agree that a 350z would be a good choice (i own one), but its not what the OP wants. thats like telling someone who wants an S13 to go buy an S14 because its cleaner and more bad ass...some people like the S13 more and are going to stay with that. hah i doubt he started this thread to try and have people convince him to get a different car.
*the whole S13 S14 comment was just to make a point, i don't actually feel that way everyone :)

No, I'm telling a 18 year old kid that at his life point a POS project car is a bad idea. Making payments on a late model, need-nothing ride is a better plan then dreaming of another. $1,000 to get his ride running again..,then another $1000 for some tires and $2000 for paint..
300ZXs are beyond financing these days, 350s are not.
I think the only reason he wants a Z32 is the miss-guided notion that it will be cheaper.
Also, as the Rolling Stones said - you can't always get what you want.
