I got a 96 240 I am going to pick up a CF hood. My hood is shot the wife offered to get me a new hood so I cant argue with that. I heard the VIS was good that and it has a hood latch. I prefer not to mess with hood pins right now I got to much to do and not enough time to do it in. So the less work the better.. Any PRODUCTIVE comments and ideas are welcome.. If there is already a thread for this please let me know and ADMIN can delete this post. Pleas no PW'S

depends on what style you want...vented non vented. most companies have upped their quality for fitment and finish from what ive seen from a while back. find a style you like and go from there.

I just want an OEM style regular hood.. Its going to be painted when I paint the car.. I live in a really bad neighborhood people eyeball my 16's every day. I've been looking on xbay and everyone seems to make theirs out to be the best in the land.. Should I be expecting low quality for 500 bucks?

seibon , vis, carbon creations, ait, dmax. etc. its hit or miss with no name brands because you dont know what finish they put on there that will haze and cloud. our vendors on here are more than willing to help just check the vendor section

If you want the BEST then there's no other than Kognition.

I've had a eBay CF hood for my 95 talon since 2005 no hood pins, held/holding up pretty well, only thing is 2 years later it faded so my neighbor wet sanded it and clear coated it and it's always shiny now, but if wife is paying why not just get an OEM hood and paint it to match? Still may be cheaper...

Does Seibon have a hood latch? Or would I have to drill for pins?

Local family paint shop cant order the hood.. I got a junk one for 100. However the labor to fix a dent and paint it would run me about 500 all together.. You know who made the hood?

I will have to look into them as well.

most of these should have latches. hood pins are required due to the off road use of these race hoods.

Then why bother going CF? Buy a used hood for $50.
If you really want to spend $500 and save 10lbs, buy a fiberglass one. Those cheap ass CF ones are exactly the same as the FG ones only with an extra lay of weight adding CF.

because its cool to have carbon fiber and carbon fiber accesories. i would also recommend a fg hood if your just gonna paint it but if its gonna be a while till you paint...i see nothing wrong with using the carbon fiber one.

I wasn't worried about any weight reduction but I'll look into those I wasn't aware that there was a huge market for FG hoods..

oh you will once the hood prop fails with you half way inside the engine bay

^lol^ I was changing my sparks plugs when a gust of wind blew the hood a lil bit, it came off the hood prop and hood went to close on my head, it's carbon fiber so it didn't even hurt.... But my pride was hurt, when I looked and the cute neighbor was laughing at me.
OP, I don't remember off the bat what brand, I sold my talon to my cousin but I'll ask him in the morning.

I'm running a VIS OEM style hood and love it. Back when I was using the latch it held great and never showed signs of cracking; matches up well with the body too. I've since cut the D-ring off in favor for latches, and clearance for an oil cooler, but I would say money well spent. I think I may have given ~$400
