ok so i have a 1990 240sx... i was told that i have 4 wheel steering... somehow one of the ball joints on my rear drivers side popped out. i went to the dealer and they told me it was a rear side socket rod... autozone said it was a tie rod... well i bought the 'tie rod' cause im short in money... i am having trouble taking the part of the rod that the ball popped out of... i unscrew it and unscrew it and it doesnt come off... any one have any tips or solutions??

HICAS wasn't available until 1991 I believe. I'm having a hard time believing someone actually installed an entire HICAS system into your 1990. I'm assuming you're ball joints went bad in the rear. You will either need a new set of rear lower control arms with ball joints pressed in, or you will have to press in your own ball joints.

well the car was built in july of 90', the dealer parts guy told me that it was considered a 91' ... but either way, the tie rod came completley off from the ball part... the part that screws into the middle stayed attached, thats the part im having trouble with taking out, because when i try nd loosen it the other side spins as well... and when i get someone to hold the other side it loosens both sides... its frusterating...

Thats a hicas rack for sure....Nows the time to get rid of that SHIT!!!!...

1. Get hicas elminator
2. Press out ball joint from knuckle.
3. Install bushing into knuckle.
4. Enlarge out tie rod hole for appropriate bolt for above bushing.
5. Attach new inner tie rod/other side to hicas eliminator.
6. Enjoy your work.

Or replace just the inner if you aint got the fundage...FYI to take it out (its a BITCH) you have to get a wrench on both sides of the hicas rack. the rack with have some flat spots where you can fit a big ass wrench on both sides...Read the FSM and it tells you which way to turn each side to break them loose. FYI its hard as fuck to break them and you NEED to get a wrench on both sides or it just spins.

If you plan on keeping the car long term... ditch the entire HICAS setup. Keep the rear sway bar and differential.

Yup....remove everything from the hardlines in the front all the way to the rack in back. Easy as shit to do just time consuming.
