Hello everyone,

What: Drift/Grip practice.
Who: Anyone is welcome. We will only have 20 DRIVERS only so sign up early.

Refunds will be issued to anyone signed up for the event if you cancel two weeks prior to the event date. If you cannot make it to the event and you need to cancel after the two week dead line, you can still get a refund if there is someone who can take you place from the waiting list.

hahah...blah blah blah...
ok,
reasons for rain:
1 - save tires
2 - learn more technique at lower speeds with less traction to fight
3 - never done it before on a track
4 - no sunburn, overheating, windburn, etc associated ailments of hot weather
5 - save tires AGAIN
6 - allows for cars with less horsepower / skill to link turns, drifts will just carry further
7 - car control is stressed MUCH more with less traction, it will be a good learning experience for many
reasons against rain:
1 - drastically increased risk of going off track if not overly cautious of speed
2 - mud, mud, and more mud on a track like Buttonwillow, people WILL get stuck
3 - if you lose control recovery will be almost non existant (there will be NO drifting on certain turns ---> SUPRA)
4 - being wet alllll day just SUCKS
5 - being cold allll day just SUCKS
6 - more mud
7 - doing ANY sort of maintenence on your car in the rain just SUCKS
so those are just a few of my personal reasons for and against the rain on a track day...
some will say the PROS outweigh the CONS and some will say the opposite..
either way i'll have fun..so i'm game for whatever..
:D

Yeah...brakes suck more in the rain as well...I'm not really wanting to slam into anyone who spins out in front of me, or have someone slam into me when I spin out (since I know I would) ...so if it rains we should have less people on the track.
I'm always down for whatever...count me in...

you should never be that close in any event...so hitting another car really should be a non-issue at our levels of drifting/driving..
brakes will work slightly worse in the rain..not really that big of a difference though once they heat up and dry..
and i imagine the event would have less people if it rains anyway..
not that ANY of this is even relevant at present..lol..but fun to ponder..

See, thats the problem with you crazzzzy driftarsss, always spinning out and crazy stuff. I cant even drive in a straight line and you guys want to go all sideways all crazzy like....crazy :aw: :D
Speaking of which, I think the only time there have even been the chance of accidents with two ON TRACK CARS is when the guy behind gets impatient and maybe tries to creep up too close and pass asap. Just chill out, wait till the guy behind you waves you and you can make a safe pass. I've never come away from an event feeling like I needed more track time. I'd rather get home in one piece that be walking home because I was impatient for 2 laps.
Anyway. An event in the rain will SUCK. If someone goes off they are gonna get stuck.
"Offs" in the mud may also damage suspension parts more yadda yadda yadda. Lets not even think about how changing tires in the rain or how to store your track gear will be. (Hello all my new friends with EZ UPs! )
But I think we all will probably learn more driving in the wet than we would driving several events in the dry.
Who are we kidding though, this is California. It will probably be 70 degrees out there and sunny sky

Most likely...............
What i want to know is why this thread isn't blowing up? What the hell is wrong with people? These track days are THE SHIT! ppl are such bitches sometimes......" i just spent money on mods" , "i can't afford tires". I don't get it. Then people go to DD's a week later. Go figure?!?!

10-30-2003, 10:00 PM
I'll be there rain or shine. With new tires. And hopefully a trailer. And all my tools. And a swearshirt in case it gets cold. And a pillow for when I sleep in my car. And some water. And a sandwhich. And maybe some cookies.

yeah seriously...where is everyone??..i guess most people on these boards really are posers who would rather look good then drive well..
ok, so i was thinking (i know i know, i don't wanna get hurt, i'll be careful)...and i think i came up with the perfect scenario..
see, i am beginning to see more and more the NON-driving shittyness of rain...
if we were just in a car drifting in the rain, that would rock...but the reality is that we will spend more time out of the cars, in the rain, then in them...
soooooo..this is how it is going to go..(moon, weather patterns, high and low pressure systems, all of you listen up!)
it will start of mildly overcast and chilly...we will get a couple cold, but dry, hours in to warm up and remember how to drive..lol...then it will rain...for 30min-1hr ONLY!!!..that should apply sufficient wetness to the ground to have some fun..it'll dry up within the next 2 hours as the sun gradually starts to come back out of the, now, partly cloudy skies..for the remaining 3 or so hours of the day it will gradually get more sunny but stay brisk...and a nice, dry, drive home...
everyone in agreement?..good!
:D

Bringing things are something extra careful.
What you need to do is make sure your car is ready for some 6+ hours of abused DRIFTING and still get to drive the car home.
I would likely check all fluids, Engine Oils, LSD oils, Flush radiators... When you head out to the track you should used 25% Coolant and 75% water. Water is much cooler than coolant when you are on the track. Check for all loose things such us Battery, bolts and other misc things.
Brakes are very important, you should flush them out and bleed them.
I used http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pages/brakes/superblueate.jpg
Super Blue brake fluid, I have done lots of track times and I have not seen this fluid boils. Your brakes might be a little mushy after couple track times if you have a stock brake lines and shietty pads. They go around $12 bucks each big bottle and enough to flush and bleed two-three cars. Depends how stupid you are to bleed brakes ie THe Awaher brothers. JK alex and erik.
I guess the stock line heats up and expands but don't really have the technical idea of how much they expand except "they do".
Oh yeah, What is your name? I havent seen you registered yet.

Al if we can freaking find some godamn banjo fittings for the steel lines we have (they are for the 300zx but since not running those rotors)...by december we should be running steel lines, XP's (me running 180 rotors)
I hope there is no squishy, I don't know what else could contribute to it after all that.
speaking of which, race pads are fucking awesome. Even with a squishy pedal they grip like crazy
Still room for 1 more on this event? :boink:

i don't think he is laughin in disbelief, i think he is laughing cause he knew that...and rounded up to $50.00 in his post...kind of a like a: "haha, very funny motherfucker..but seriously does anyone know of a place cheaper then u-haul"...

and you can actually get them cheaper then that...i think it's 27.99 or somethin if you just want the one that puts 2 wheels off the ground..

Looks like I'll be renting a trailer too. I've been looking around trying to find one to buy, but they all seem so expensive. All I want is something cheap for around $500 that won't fall apart. I know they're out there somewhere.

I dont know if that's safe. The car isnt super low but it will probably drag..also is it safe to tow a RWD from the front ?? I dont know but either way im trying to find something cheaper..im gonna call United Rentals like Al suggested. we'll see. Maybe ill just go buy a Hummer H2 on 26's.. heh

Ever seen what a single axel trailer does when it hits a good size bump or a couple small bumps while loaded?
They tend to jump and jack knife VERY easily! Double axel trailers are the only ones i'd ever consider towing. That's just me tho.

you would back a RWD car onto a trailer like that...as you do not ever want to tow the drive wheels..

lay off the hours and hours of J-Turns at DD10 and you should be fine...you only get about 10-15 min driving on the actual track...its the J-Turns and Skid Pad that kill your tires though..

Well, it turns out I spent too much time on the skidpad at DD10 and I wore the shit out of my right rear. Half of the thread chunked off. Ordered some Yoko ES100's from tirerack so I'll be ready for Friday. Does anyone know of a good place in LA to get tires mounted for cheap and reliably? When you order off of tirerack, you don't get valve stems do you?
What time should I get there in the morning?

Yeah, I didn't read your thread until after I got back from the event. I kind of forgot about this thread. It's cool though because it gave me a lot of experience but I wish I would have saved it for the main course. I took one run on the main course and I decided to take a look and I was like "HOLY SHIT!!!" Igot lucky because I could drive home.
What kind of tires do you guys use on your steelies? I just ordered some 195/55/15 to have a lower pro and tighter tire. As you can see, I don't really mind the sunken in and mad wheel gap look. At DD10 my tires were 205/60/15 all season and I think that's why they chunked.
For anyone coming from SOCAL, I'm leaving from Pasadena at about 5AM on Friday morning. Do you think I'll beat Bakersfield traffic and get there in time? Will I hit traffic at all?

Went fine, we just got back in. (S13Chica, me and halz and another)
Track was good, no rain or anything. Lot of people going off still, but towards the end of the day not much of that was happening. Did some testing between cars and different setups.
On the way home Halz lost a tire (azenis) and we had to replace on the side of the highway. Otherwise non eventfull. Still probably one of the best track events for seat time and easy going people. Now if only my datalogger fucking came through. Sucked I wanted to see if 180 brakes worked better than stock.
I think I found the magic PSI for azenis on a stock 240, 39psi. 40 seems to work really well for turn in, but understeers just a tad too much on some corners. 38 which I was running was cool and all but I could not floor it in some turns.
SR cars are still slow :D

I had a really great time at the event...so much track time...so worth every penny spent. It was really cool of Chris to come out with the signal car...even if he did get a little too close to the wall for comfort!
Thanks Alex and Charlie for all your pointers...I still suck...but at least I'm learning.
I always love these track days...so much track time, and such a good crowd of people!
thx247...you know you LOVE the power of an sr!!! Stop lieing to yourself!

Fun event. I just wish my car was running right so I could beat on it. Oh well, next time.
Very fun event, as always.. glad it didn't rain, that woulda made things fun, but way too messy
Oh, and I know exactly where the tire is.. THE FUCKING DUMPSTER http://halzmann.homestead.com/files/smilies/evil4.gif
If you'll take a look at the pictures, you can see that the problem wheel has the word 'BENT' written on it; hehehe.. yeh, that was from the first event :) That bent, yet lead-assisted-balance wheel, went on to see another event at buttonwillow, and an event at streets of willow..
This last event, however, I'm pretty sure that wheel had at least one, two... four? run-in at a bad angle with a rumble strip.
With the wheel off the car, I noticed the largest lead weight was.. no longer attached.. doh.
The breakaway of tire-from-tire was really progressive.. at first I thought the subtle rustle was an old truck driving nearby.. after looking around and not seeing anything nearby, and then beginning to feel a complimentary shutter in the rear.. and then finally the noisy breakaway.
Thankfully it wasn't on a steering/braking wheel.. then again.. i might have felt it coming across in the steering system earlier.. ohwell. And i'm surprised it didn't happen at the track.. the speeds at times were about the same.. ~80mph, or so

Anyone here know someone who is parting out an S13 because I need the passenger side window after the bastards broke it and stole all my shit so I couldn't go to this event. Looks like a lot of fun, I'll definitely see you guys at the next event if I can save up for a helmet by then. Hopefully someone will buy me some tools for Christmas or something and the face of the radio that they tore off. MOFOS!!!
thx247
