The car: 1990 240SX Coupe, 1993 Twin Cam Harness, 1996 KA24DE
God this car is giving me such a headache... Why do I love it so?
I've been running through a bunch of issues with my newly installed KA24DE lately. I had issues with injectors not seating, car not starting, everything and anything you can imagine going wrong. So here's my newest dilemma:
I switched around a bunch of used injectors I had laying around from my old motor, the new motor, and ones I had just picked up. I wanted them all to match and have the best o-rings out of the lot. Stuck em in, car ran fine. Changed the fuel filter (I dunno how long it's been, at least 10,000) and the clutch slave cylinder, stuck some Chevron Fuel System Cleaner in the tank and filled it up with Shell mid-grade (91 Octane I think?) and it ran fine. A little bit of lag when I would push the gas in as I let the clutch out after changing gears, but I figured it was because I had installed all that jazz and the ECU had been turned off so it had to adapt.
I go out yesterday morning and turn it on. Cranks right over. I get about five feet before it stutters and dies. I smell gas. I pop the hood and see that the number 3 injector has gas around it... goddam it... so I take it out and finagle a new one in. Crank the car and as soon as the engine catches - BAM! - there's a loud crack that comes from the engine, and it dies. Now I'm terrified that I've destroyed the only thing that I love. After fiddling with injectors and all that, the car finally starts, runs rough, then clears up. Bueno! But I pull the dipstick and it reeks of gas. So I left it there and hitched a ride to work, figuring that one of my injectors was constantly leaking into the cylinder.
Today I installed all new injectors ($350 :naw:), and changed the oil before I drove it. The old oil was a viscous as water, no joke, and it absolutely reeked of gasoline. It smelled more like gas than gas does.
Started it up, and it started as quick as it ever has, one crank and we're golden. I drive it around, lots of backfiring when I leave it in gear and let off the gas. I stop and unplug the negative terminal for 10 minutes. Re-attach it, no more backfiring.
But now the engine has a serious lag in horsepower. It will accelerate the same whether I'm at half throttle or WOT. Can anybody help me? Did I seriously f*** the engine up or what? Any and all help would be gratefully appreciated, thanks in advance...
