Anyone with an s13 tint their sunroof?

I have the factory tint on there which sucks @$$.
..its not even tint..just a bunch of organized dots..

it gets SUPER hot when the sun is out and i live in southern california.
been thinking about tinting it BLACK.

has anyone done this orrr done something else with their sunroof?
what're your experiences?

Just grab some cheap 5% maybe even 2.5% tint from autozone or something, clean the glass and lay it on there. If it doesn't look good just peel it off.

Is it possible to remove that factory 'tint'? it feels like its just a glued mesh patterned..don't know if anyone has experience trying to remove it..

I personally painted mine black to completely keep the sun off of me and out of my car.

I had 5% before and frankly it's not dark enough for the roof. I would only recommend tint if it's under 5%.

I've removed those dots with paint stripper before. Only issue is that sometimes there's a coating on the glass, and the stripper will take that off too. Since you're going to tint it anyway, I'd say go for it. Stripper, scrape it off with a plastic squeegee to avoid scratching the glass, wash it VERY well, apply two coats of 5% or one of 2.5% (tough to find) and be happy.

get the VHT NiteShade spray and put as many layers as desired. Got this little tip directly from a tint shop. Much easier than trying to sand/file the dot matrix.

i might go with this option. seems like less work..and i dont really care much for the sunroof anyways..

how difficult is it to take off (and put back on) the rubber strips/seals around the glass? should i just replace it with new rubber?

you can tint it but it will look fugly because the dot matrix, it wont lay flat over it. tiny little bumps =(

that is, if your talking about the S13 flip up roof. i think the regular glass one on the coupe are fine to tint. just regular flat glass.

mine has the dot matrix. i either have to try to remove it or use a spray tint on it.

Take it out then lau it down on some carpet so it doesn't crack or break spay it down with window cleaner. Then get a new pack of razor blades and go to town.

Coming directly from someone who recently replaced that outer weather strip/seal of their pop-up sunroof with a new OEM Nissan unit; its a serious 4+ hour pain in the ass just to remove that old seal completely. It is like bonded to the glass piece with some strong epoxy and 20+ years of weathering usually hardens the crap out of the rubber, so it will come off in small crumbling pieces instead of one big ring (like a new OEM one). Once its off, there is no way you will be able to put it back on. Hecne why you buy a new one if your original one is manged up.

What I'd highly recommend you do especially if you'e just going to spray it with that tint stuff, is to go out and buy yourself a roll of blue painters tape and take 30+ minutes to mask it off very well and even tuck some of the edge of the tape underneath the original seal. Even if you sprayed some of the underside of the sunroof outer seal with the tint stuff, I'd doubt you'd ever notice it.. Whatever you do, don't remove the seal unless your replacing it with a new OEM one and only do that if your original one is damaged.

Yes. Most automotive tint isn't scratch resistant, and since the film is supposed to be facing the inside, sometimes it isn't UV resistant either. Depends on the manufacturer, but I've seen some cheap enough to do it. For the most part, it just wasn't designed for it, so a lot of the things it would need to stand up to even light outdoor exposure just aren't in it. Adhesive is too weak, etc...

ok so is this for a hatch or coupe? for a hatch the sunroof will just pop right out its a whopping 2 minute procedure not even. ive done it while i was stopped at a red light. just pop it out spray it with windex and clean it then apply the nightshades stuff...
